Sh*t! Look what I've done!
Discussion
I'm absolutely gutted.....
Just got to work tonight, and I was parking up in the underground car park, when somehow I hit a bloody piller. I'm not sure what happened, the steering wheel seemed to whip left as I was turning right and it just clipped the corner under the headlight.
To say I'm fuming with myself would be an understatement.
Anyone any idea roughly how much this could set me back? The headlight is smashed, and the fibreglass all round the nearside indicator is broken, but luckily the bonnet is untouched.
I've been thinking recently of getting a twin headlamp upgrade (Tuscan style), maybe this is a good time! Also the car will get a nice front end respray (much needed)! :tryingtolookonthebrightside:
These are pictures from my phone so they're pretty bad quality.

same thing happened to me, one day before I was due to part ex the 3 series for the Chimaera. hit a stoooopid underground carpark pillar, and was embarrasing as had 3 people i met at a party in my car...doh!
knocked £300 off my part ex the next day but I think it will cost you a little more! Sorry, and I hope it gets fixed soon and these things happen...

Been thinking about it and i reckon doing it through the insurance is the best way forward. I've only got 3 years no claims, so maybe my premium will go up a few hundred quid but compared to what it would cost otherwise it's a drop in the ocean!
I guess it'll need a whole new front end instead of just being patched up?
I was looking at body parts on the tvrgear website and a new front end is about £2500 plus VAT, with the labour and repsraying i guess i'd be looking at £4000 to £5000 (way out of my range!).
I think I'll buy a little runabout car and get the Chim sorted in the new year. It'll be in showroom nick for summer then!
I wonder if I can get a headlight conversion though the insurance too?

and we wonder why our premiums are so high?
where do you think the money comes from?
It won't just cost you... but all of us.
Sorry to gripe, but if you don't watch where you're going...
Have you ever driven a Chimaera? The inside front wing sometimes feels like it is in a different timezone!
At the end of the day, you pay your insurance and you make a claim if you have an accident. That's what insurance is for!
Presumably if/when you bend your car in the future you will altruistically refrain from making a claim in order to reduce the insurance costs for the rest of us, will you?
Before you embark on the repair process - get a few quotes from reputed repairers and ask them how they would intend to repair it. They don't have to be TVR people either.
Looking at the pics, it looks like it can be repaired without having a new front end but that's only my opinion. Ask around though first.

Your been a tad unfair I think mate. Thats why I pay more for fully comp insurance. In fact, thats the whole idea behind insurance, so that something is "INSURED" against damage.
Hope this clears up a pretty simple concept for you! One that the rest of us managed to gasp a long time ago. I must have paid £20,000 to insurance companies over the years, without ever making a claim, so maybe it is time I got a bit back.
As for everybody else, thanks for you reassuring words. I've gaffer taped it up for now and I'll get some qoutes tomorrow, I keep you posted.

So what happens when the hard concrete pillar aint a hard concrete pillar but a soft malleable little child?
Takes a bit more than gaffer tape to patch him/her up?

T, that's such bad luck. Sorry I can't be any use with indications of cost.
.
- can imagine how you feel. Good therapy thinking about revamping the front end. Suspect this will ease the shock, both of doing it and the cost of fixing it! Hope you get it sorted soon
