My x-box has croaked it for the third time. I've decided I'm going to splash out and buy a new system. Can I use my old hard drive and attach it to the new system? Is there any difference in design between old and new one's?

It should just be a straight-forward swap. Theyre all the same fitment, even the larger disks still fit all 360s and have the same fitting. Haven't seen any that are a different shape or fitment before.

They do swap between xbox's buit there are a couple of things to consider.

Downloaded content (DLC): If you have any then you will have to be signed in to Live to use it.
This can be a pain, for example I have all the DLC for Forza and as i have DLC cars in my garage I have to be on live to even start the game. This is a bugger if you ever take you xbox to a mates or somewhere without internets..
There is a way to transfur the DRM of the content though, but you can only do it once a year!

(this does not help me though as i swap my drive between 3 xbox's !)

Games copied to the Hard Drive: If you have backup up a game to the HD for a quieter xbox (god knows it needs it), then when you move the hard drive you will have to delete the gane from the drive and back it up again. They only run from the oringnal Hard Drive/ Xbox combination.

If you want to tranfur the content from one hard drive to a new one (say 20gb to a 60 or 120) then there is a bit of hardware that MS can send you. I asked for mine when i bought a Elite but it did take 4 months to show up!.

It says elite but i belive any new xbox qualifies..

I've just swapped my Hard drive from an early Premium into a brand new Arcade and it was fine.

You will have to re-do any settings like wireless adaptor stuff and controller attachment.
