Hi everyone,

My first time writing on Piston Heads. Enjoyed reading evryone's comments over the past few months and want to let you know i've joined the TVR clan.

I've bought a fly yellow Chimp 500 (1997 R). 18,500 miles from Hillfoot TVR in Sheffield. I think i did ok, it was £20k, but i got nearly £6k for my clapped out MR2 Turbo.

Everythings going fine at the moment, but am a bit worried after seeing all the problems that appear on Piston Heads. But then i think that's all part and parcel of the joy of owning a TVR.

Anyway, enjoying driving in the wet at the moment, but can't wait until the dry to test it out (Top off this afternoon hopefully).

Let me know if there's any other TVR's in or around Swindon

Bandit

Nice one! Welcome to the fold.

As long as you don't treat it as a museum piece, there's no reason why you should have any problems at all.

Think of it like this. If you get out and about every day, even for a short walk, you'll feel good and won't need to see the doctor. If you don't get out of bed for weeks on end because it's raining and then decide to run a marathon when the sun comes out, you'll be shagged.

Good on yer Bandit.

Why not bring the yellow meanie up the A420 on Sunday (see the "PH meet 3pm Sunday" thread), so we can have a look.

Hi Bandit,

Well done and welcome. I'm in the Swindon area for work.

If you prefer a TVRCC meeting this Sunday, the Cotswold 3 Counties region is meeting at 12:30 at a pub near Painswick, details in Sprint. See you there? drop me a line on e mail (via my profile) if you need more detail. In the process of discussing the summer activities so you can plan how you can enjoy ownership even more .

Don't worry, if people have problems they will ask advise or wing about it. Very few people give praise. So for every negative experience on this sit there is problem dosens of good experience they don't tell you about.

And the reason people don't praise as often as they whinge is that they're afraid the former will lead to the latter.

(So here goes...)

My Chimaera (note absence of primates) is running better than ever, especially after its recent service. New plugs and a general fettling have pepped up the throttle response nicely. So much so that I just had to go out for a quick blat to be sure. (If you were in that BMW 5 series just at the Bar Hill slip road... sorry, hope I didn't wake you.)

Better?

Bandit, you bloody fool, you've just blagged all that dosh on a car that you will keep you awake most nights while you have a quick peek to make sure it still looks like it did last time you looked at it, make you paranoid where you park it, worry the shit out of you when it makes a noise you haven't heard before, write to everyone on the planet to find out which oil to put in the thing, complain bitterly to anyone who will listen that the alarm has a mind of it's own and then.........the sun comes out, good choice friend

Leadfoot: yes. Their final bit of work has held together well, which means I'm now free to go wherever I want. Offord, bless 'em, do servicing which Warranty Holdings (bless them too? ) are happy with. Since they're about 10 miles from me, it kinda makes sense to go there from now on.

There are just three things I want now:-
a) Sports exhaust (neighbours? Nah...)
b) Lower temperature otter switch
c) Shift lights

Damn, four.

d) Adjustable shocks

Maybe five...

e) Some darker carpets (red wine/purple coloured)

And then there's....

(Christ I've had to edit this twice to get it anywhere near right. Is this creeping Campbellism? )

Bugger, looks like I will be visiting Offord soon too - managed to run mine up to 47000 miles now and therefore needs a service soon. So how come I have managed to put 5000 miles on in 4 months then? Especially as it is a third car....

Ah, that will be the joys of owning a TVR then... Congrats Bandit - enjoy. Lots of worry as Apache says, but boy, are they worth it....

Cheers,

Paul

I think Simon will have to move to bigger premises if this keeps up, Marshy are you sure about the otter switch cos I,ve put in a manual override for nowt which si better cos it doesn't overcool the car in winter

My otter switch kicks the fans in at 90 since the swirl pot (switch and all) was replaced late last summer. Prior to that I had one that came in at 80.

Last winter the car didn't seem over-cool, and with the old switch things would max out at 90/95 in the summer. As it stands, I'm maxing out at 100 in the winter.

you know it has taken me 4 hours to realise who you were taking about!! Talk about dim...

As for the fan override switch - I have one too and it does work very well. I like the idea of being able to just flick it on when I am coming up to some stationary traffic. Keep the temp down rather than high.... and as Apache so rightly says, it doesnt keep it over cool in cold weather.... Just a shame mine doesnt have an indicator light so I can see that I have left it on!!! Doh.

Cheers,

Paul
