yo.

I've got this idea and i need to capture paint running from a tin, splashes of paint kind of like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Michael_Melgar_L...

Anyone got any good tips? Good tutorials on the web?

Am i right in thinking my monoblocks will have too long a flash duration? most people use speedlights?

Anyone done this sort of thing, if so : post it up!

Cheers,

Rick.

Yup - done some last year..

Quickest flash speed you can and keep the room dark seemed to work I recall.

I've done a few. These were done at work when I got bored. Taken in normal daylight using ring flash off camera I think. I have had success with others that used just the built in pop up flash.

As others have said above really. Just keep clicking away as the droplets fall and you will soon get to know when to press the shutter release to capture the stage of the splash you want. I think it's great fun.

Bloke at my school did this for an engineering project. Two ball bearings were dropped simultaneously from a short height. One hit water to make the splash; the other hit a lever connected to the shutter release. By adjusting the height of one ball bearing relative to the other, he could adjust the time of the shutter release relative to the splash. IIRC it worked very well, and I like the Galilean simplicty of it.

A lot of trial and error! Get the focus set on a couple of drips first the keep pressing the shoot button until you get one biggrin

(By accident) I found that using the high speed setting on the camera worked quite well. I'll dig out the pic!

I'm a bit inspired by these. I hope nobody ended up with paint on the lense smile
