strimmers - petrol v battery

electric sounds good from a lack of hassle point of view, but are they actually any good? Will the battery die after a few years leaving 3 minutes between charges?

How about mains electric? No petrol, oil or din, and no batteries to go flat.

(although I concede you need a mains socket within striking distance)

I have a (admittedly cheap) battery one and it's so bad I use the shears.

Don't piss about, get a Stihl FS55, end of.

if where you're strimming is so remote that you can't use mains, then get petrol.

If it's only a small plot, use shears.

Petrol every time. One with a straight boom will have more longevity. Have a couple and am impressed with a Ryobi which wasn't at all expensive

I've got one of these, but how do you stop your hand going numb after 20min of use, from the strimmers vibrations?

My hand is actully sore to touch!

Got a Ryobi too. Range of attachments available but I find it less easy to control (and heavier of course) than a mains strimmer. Great for rough stuff but a bit 'industrial' for a garden IMHO.

Got petrol and Mains, for me it Petrol everytime.

More oomph and flexibility IMHO.
