I've recently bought an old lathe. Whilst all the oily bits seem generally sound, it's a bit tatty round the edges - flaking paint in places, a touch of rust in places. A good clean will help, but I'm debating whether to give it all a coat of paint to spruce it up. I'm guessing I want some machine enamel - anyone have any recommendation for paints or general advice?

A time-honoured veteran lathe with brand new Hammerite dolloped on sounds hideous, frankly.
Not a Myford ML8 by any chance?
Agree on the hammerite. Didn't even cross my mind to be frank. Not a Myford ML8 by any chance?

Nothing so small as an ML8. It's a Southbend 13 incher from sometime around WWII I believe.
