My local SHELL fuel station has been selling some utter crap fuel under the name of V-POWER.
The mapping garage where we took an EVO to get mapped produced an initial bhp of 333bhp. The engine was pinking.
So we took a look at the fuel.
The guy mapping the engine saw instantly that it was not the right colour or smell for V-Power.
He drained the fuel tank and put in some V-Power that he had in a can from his own local SHELL fuel station.
The colour and smell were indeed very different.

With proper fuel in the engine the car now ran at 360bhp. No more pinking.

I know that myself and my brother have been using the local SHELL station for a number of years and we have probably been putting in this utter cr@p that they have been mis-selling under the name of V-POWER.....what can we do in terms of compensation? .... or as a first priority, stopping them mis-selling fuel under the wrong name AND PRICE !

Make a complaint to your local trading standards.........once they've been convicted a simple small claims case should do it (not a solicitor so reserve the right to be talking bullst)

I experienced this the other way around from an esso garage. I'm sure their normal unleaded from one pump was 97ron rather than 95. They soon found their mistakefrown

Given that petrol stations can be franchised, perhaps reporting them directly to shell would see them booted out.

Could just be a tanker driver dropped a delivery into the wrong tank, so might not be intentional, it does happen at times

Couple of garages near me- the delivery seems to be slower than what the numbers suggest. Hard to explain but sometimes I fill more to the brim than I thought it would take (say only a few litres out) but I imagine if you could restrict the flow somehow you would rake shedloads in if you did this to every punter?
I think that the pumps are very finely calibrated, for this very reason. All done by Trading Standards.

If they are genuinely under-delivering then complain, and get them tested. It will be very easy to prove.

Makes a change from my local Shell station. Instead of going for non VPower fuel they are alledgely (sp) going for all your credit cards instead frown

Customers at a busy petrol station have been questioned after an investigation was launched into credit card fraud.

A number of customers using the Shell garage on the Chatham-bound carriageway of Blue Bell Hill are believed to have fallen victim to card cloning.

It is not yet known how many customers have been affected. Some motorists have found withdrawals from their accounts have been made across the world, including in Thailand, Malaysia, India and Canada.

Shell is now working with Kent Police and banks to investigate the matter and resolve it quickly.

One motorist, who did not want to be named, said: “I have been contacted by my bank because I have had two of my credit cards cloned. One has been used to try to withdraw cash in Thailand but the transaction was unsuccessful.

“On the other card there have been seven attempts to draw money out in Malaysia over the space of three or four days. Four of these were successful, totalling about £400.”

Cloned

Another customer, who did not want to be named, said: “I used my card to pay for petrol in there and a week later I had a call from my bank to say they thought my card had been cloned. I don’t know for certain if the petrol station was where my card was cloned because my bank was unable to tell me. But I do use that station regularly.”

Det Sgt Dave Liffen of Kent Police said: “An investigation has begun into the compromise of payment cards with the full co-operation of the management at the service station concerned, and the relevant financial institutions.

“As a result of this collaboration, it is hoped that the inconvenience caused to the card holders affected will be minimal, and those responsible will be identified and brought to justice.”

A spokesman for Shell UK said: “The security of customer transactions is Shell’s primary concern. For us every instance of card fraud is one too many.

“Shell has been supportive of the police, APACS (the UK payments association) and the card service provider in their ongoing investigations into this serious form of organised crime and identity theft. We are continuously working with our retail partners who run our forecourts as well as industry associations to promote best practice in the security of our petrol stations.

“Any reports of fraudulent activity are immediately followed up by Shell’s own investigators, as well as the police, APACS and the card service provider.

strange you should post that - i had my card defrauded soon after stopping at the local Shell garage on the way home - i dont use it often. About a week later phone call from the bank saying have i bought anything from somewhere in india?

a month later was heading in the other direction from home, and needed a quick splash n dash as the tank was empty, and the Esso grage is now a shell garage (a different one to the first shell garage) and again about a week or so later call from the bank to say have i made a particular purchase.

It could all be conincidence that i have been to a shell garage and been defrauded soon after but didnt they have a problem a few years ago after the introduction of the chip n pin machines, and shell removed the chip n pin and returned to having to sign for purchases for a time?

I thought it was possibly my imagination, but when i run regular in my Golf I get pinking, lack of throttle response and groaning, not a happy engine.. My engine is basically a snob! If i want it to run quiet with pepp then I need 98Ron Shell V power does the trick.. I visited Shell garage 333 Birmingham Road and filled up with V power as I usually do and the engine acted like regularm also Springhill road Walsall was the same, when i visited Willenhall road shell near wolverhampton smell and look performance was back.. It's not just about performance it's also about additives clean injectors etc.. Not to mention this is theft.. something needs to be done!
