My constant looking for, and indecision over, the past few weeks has been leading to sleepless nights and I have totally lost the ability to concentrate.

My hunt for my first M3 started with wanting a black coupe with a red interior and EDC which had done less than 10,000 miles. The idea of a saloon was has been tempting me over the past couple of weeks but now I am back to square one but with a different colour scheme; I now want Silverstone II.

I found the perfect car last Monday, called up and the salesman said he would ring me later in the day to see if he could do the deal I asked for. Come the end of the day he called. How happy was I to hear his voice but alas another saleman had sold the car by the time he had finished running the numbers. Never mind, eh?

So, I find myself today in a curious position. Having been speaking to a local dealer, he informed me of an offer BMW are doing. No deposit and half price monthly payments on a new M3 that I can spec and then give back after 3 years or buy it outright (I would, at this stage most likely give it back). I have booked an appointment for a week today to discuss this further and, hopefully, spec my car. Apart from read the small print bloody carefully is there anything I should watch out for? Is this a good idea?

I have all ready specced my car several times on the BMW website and have a couple of questions. What is this BMWconnected Drive/Assist? How does the LOGIC7 professioal differ from the BMW individual audio system. Which one is better as I love my music (yes I know the V8 should be all I need but a little Bach while driving 8 hours accross Europe overnight is lovely). The climate comfort windscreen. Is it just a quick clear screen? And what exactly is the high gloss shadow line? Virtually everycar advertised has it but no one seems to be able to describe what it actually is when I ask them. Lastly, the highbeam assistant. How does that work?

Thank you for reading and putting up with my ranting the past couple of weeks but the girlfriend is now sick to death of me talking about cars.

Pete

P.S. What has happened to Sparkling Graphite on the Car configurator? It will be the colour I will spec or maybe Silverstone, perhaps Moonstone, possible Dakar with black wheels or do I go for white. Having said that LeMans looks good too. confused

£500 per month. So over the 3 years £18000. In those 3 years I will do around 55k. Current used coupes from dealers are around £38,500 with up to 18k on them. So when it's time to hand the keys back I think I will be better off going the finance route as the car will have less milage but then again I don't have the final agreement re: value of the car after 3 years yet.

£500 per month on a new M3 with no deposit, three years and ~20k mileage per year?

Seems pretty good to me! Is this all dealers or just a particular car they want rid of?

Not sure TBH. I think it's for all new M3s and is an offer valid for a couple of weeks. I'll have all the details by next friday evening if you are interested.

Now back to those specs scratchchin

Climate comfort windscreen just means it has additional filtering in to block out heat/UV from the sun, although I seem to remember it blocks GPS signals too.

High gloss shadow line is the area of plastic trim that runs around the side windows - high gloss is shinier than the standard, but I doubt anyone other than a hardened expert would notice.

Have a listen to cars fitted with individual audio/logic 7 and see what you prefer.

That deal would be cracking at £500/month, the featured one on the BMW site is £570/month+VAT for 41 months with a £1900 deposit!

There is a fairly lengthy thread on this deal on mtorque.co.uk I am not sure a consensus was reached. Given the mileage you are doing though I would take a look at any additional mileage premium. I also recall that you have to pay full price for any options you add over 19" wheels and DCT in full within the three years. That is not to say it is not still an interesting deal though. Also is it not the deal for business users only though so if they would do it for an individual you have to add VAT.

I have just bought an 08 in Jerez black with extended fox (red) leather and a number of options for 39k. (The wait until I pick up is killing me!!!) If you wanted to keep for three years an added years warranty is less than £1k so personally I would seriously look at the difference in payments between nearly new and brand new - although from your email you seem to be on top of most of this anyway so probably preaching to the choir.

An interesting turn of events. The dealership I was speaking to did not mention anything about paying for the extras or about the business deal. I'm going to run over all the numbers I have again and again before the meeting next week. I did tell him I would be doing circa 60,000 miles in 3 years and he said it was no problem at all but no mention of extra charges. Well, I'll just to wait and see. Thanks for the pointers.

I do not know how I missed your post. Thanks for clarifying those points. Don't want to block the GPS for the Road Angel! Very much looking forward to next Friday now. Fingers crossed he salesman was speaking the truth with the numbers.

Am I dim or do you lot bandy large amounts of borrowed money around like tomorrow never comes? What happens when you lose your job? (Don't say "It won't happen to me squire"!). It is certainly very likely this year....

£500 -£700 a month to flush down the toilet over 36 month's & have nothing to show for it is mind boggling to most NORMAL people. They would shun you in the street if they realised the GROSS stupidity shown by the likes of you.

Don't get me wrong - I love my cars, but I don't ever buy a car on finance!!! If you can't afford to buy for cash (Car or anything else!!!) don't do it! It will all end in tears in 2009 - especially after next months Budget from our lovely Scottish politicians Brown & Darling. English voters will lose - Scottish voters will get more free precriptions, dental care et al. You heard it here first.

Love these self-righteous posts!!

Seriously though mate - as long as he keeps himself out of negative equity on the finance, what's the big problem?!

I've got a 997 Turbo earmarked next time round and I can tell you hear and now that I won't be waiting 25 years to save up £100k in cash for one!! That's ludicrous, i'll probably be dead by then!!

I also can't see the point of saving up for 3 years to buy a car you could actually have been driving for 3 years - and all for the additional cost of a bit of interest.

I'm not saying don't be prudent, I'm just saying you only get 1 shot at life mate. Don't waste it.

And also don't forget that we're not normal people, we're Pistonheads!! (there's got to be a song there somewhere??!)

Cant resist...................

Seems to me he is obviously earning a fair amount to even consider finance of this magnitude, so these "normal" people are probably doing just the same by financing their Focus/Mondeo/Insignia/Etc when you consider it as a proportion of their salary/expendable income

How else do you think we end up with quite so many nearly new cars?

Do you honestly beleieve they all paid cash?

P.S: particularly like the "likes of you" comment - this is PH, that covers the majority of us, if you dont like that "type" I suggest you foxtrot oscar and find somewhere else to carry out your troll type activity

I had a lovely retort to the crap that ....33 had written but for some reason PH logged me out and erased it!!! AH!! Anyway, the reason to chose finance is that after the sums, I get a new car to my spec and after 3 years it works out about the same as buying a second hand car and selling it after 3 years. So what is the big deal? I have been looking to buy a second hand car outright and compromise on the spec I want but if I go the finance route I can have the car I want with the same losses. Can you please tell me how this make no sense to you? I realise a the car will not hold it's value but BMW will be sucking up most of the depreciation as it were.

If you want to stuff your money into your mattress then go ahead but please stop with all of your Daily Mail BS and do not think that people who 'throw around' this kind of money rolleyes do not think about the pros and cons. I will have a roof over my head and my girlfriend and I will still eat. I am in the process on changing jobs if you must know and I will not be losing it this or next year. Stop being a sanctimonius tt and leave this forum for the sake of everyone who loves cars.
