Stainless Steel Bonnet Hinges

My bonnet hinges are crp in appearance so I have decide to remedy the situation.

I have had replacement hinges made in stainless steel, with all S/S nut bolts etc and rose joints the replace the originals.

Is there any interst by others in having some made up?

The two hinge plates including the tube and the threaded bit that goes into the chassis tube (this will include the holes threaded to M12 - might be M10 on earlier cars) will cost no more than £25 the set. The rose joint and the length of the threaded rod nomore that £20 for two and a full set of nuts/bolts/washers £20. This assumes 6 sets made up. If there is greater interest the cost will reduce.

There will be post and packing at £7.50.

I wonder if you all can help please.

The bolt, arrowed, on the fire damaged S (which provided the pattern) was 110mm long. The bolt on my car is a lot shorter so I was wondering if you all could measure yours for me to get a better idea of the length to supply. Otherwise I will have to supply the longer one which will need cutting down possibly

The thread length on mine is 100mm (1990 S3) - hope this helps.

The length needs to be right for the position of the plywood rib that the hinge bolts to. Maybe these are in the same position on all cars, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade as they look great but is there a danger if for example you nudged a kerb that the long bolt could snap rather than bend? Would it be better in BZP with the rest of it in stainless?
Just guessing - as mine had a very bent bonnet bolt.

Should be fitted next week assuming no issues I will then confirm prices and be sending PM's with my address for cheques. I will be placing order for the bits as soon as I recieve them.

Whan do you think about the long bolt S/S or BZP?

I'd go with Chris' suggestion of BZP...

I'd go for BZP, they'll be a fair bit cheaper anyway and perfectly adequate. Don't order bolts though, setscrews are what you need - they are threaded all the way to the head whereas bolts are only partially threaded.

The ones on my S3 are 10cm long.
