2003 Beetle Starter Motor Repeat Failure

Hello All,
Girlfriend is having issues with her 2003 2.0 8V Petrol VW Beetle. The car's starter motor has completely failed three times in the last 6 months. When it first failed we paid VW to replace the part, the next two times the part has been replaced under warranty by VW.
It occurs when she stalls the car and goes to start it again (yes I know she shouldn't stall the car but I drive an auto so have no leg to stand on!)
Any ideas what other component is causing the starter motor failure.
