After owning several happy snappy digital compacts (Olymous Ultrazoom being the best to date) I've currently got a Sanyo Xacti which is fair for HD video, but poor for pictures.

I'm tempted by the new Pana TZ7 - anyone have any experience of it or opinions to share?

I'd like a decent performance stills camera BUT with reasonable video capabilities too. Sub £300 budget wise. Happy to consider alternatives but the Pana looks hard to beat?

Yup, had a TZ7 for several days now having upgraded from a TZ5 which itself is terrific ..... image quality is superb. The video I've only played with, nothing serious, but for what is a compact camera as opposed to a pukka camcorder, it seems first class.

Very slight difference to the TZ5 to hold as the finger grip at the front is slightly smaller but I'm getting used to it.

Cheapest at the moment seems to be Mathers of Lancashire at £289.

There's £100 price difference between the TZ5 and the 7 - obviously the TZ7 is the latest/greatest - but that's quite a lot of wonga?

Would you say it's worth it?

Hmmm, to be 100% honest, the image quality is probably undiscernable to most users, but the video is better. If money is a factor, the TZ5 is a brilliant camera at a good price these days. I'm actually going to keep mineas well as the 7 'coz I love it!

I'm interested in it for the video as much as the stills so for me, it's probably worth it.My current Sanyo Xacti HD2 manages to do both jobs fairly poorly which is why I'm considering a replacement.
