I haven't sold stuff on eBay for years. Anyway, just shifted some stuff and was shocked to find they now charge a 10% final value fee as well as their usual listing fees and payment fees (Paypal). I was sure this final value fee was a couple of percent last time I listed.
I guess there's no way around this - it's a horrifying amount for the stuff I've sold, especially for a Sunday :-O

k! You're right! I just listed a load of car parts on there yesterday for the first time in a year, I should of added more onto the P&P charges....which I expect most other sellers are doing. I'm sure it was much less than that last time.
You now can't do that either. They have been removing high post charged items./goes to check.....

Also, part of the multiple feedback, is a part for P&P charges. It all adds up against you. Feckers
I gave up selling on eBay. Fees too high (about 15% if you add it up) and sellers can't leave -ve FB if they get problem buyers - so unscrupulous buyers can rip the piss out of you. Plus the PayPal 'money laundering' regs are the biggest load of BS you ever saw.
In short, it used to work, then they got greedy, and now it doesn't.

Between them, eBay and Paypal combined have taken £68 of my profit this week in fees. Oh, and Paypal are holding some of the money in their new 'anti-fraud measure' and I won't be able to access it for another ten days or so (all the while it accrues interest in their account, I suspect). But, until eBid becomes a viable alternative, there's not a lot you can do really...

What... Do you like ebay?
WHat's wrong with a bit of slating? They are thieving b

Yes, I like ebay, i've only been stung twice (quite a few years ago), and find it a great place to get things cheaply.
It's great for selling odds and sods. I'm about to list a set of old alloy wheels, where else can i get a worlwide audience, I can set the minimum price i'll take and all from the comfort of my home. No lugging them round auto jumbles, no paying to put them in a glossy mag that only reaches a fraction of the audience ebay does.

How do those fees stack up if you'd had to fund your own website ect?
You could set up and run a basic e-commerce website for less than £80 a year - which is obviously very favorable compared to eBay fees. But obviously, the problem is getting any meaningful exposure for your website; which as a one man band selling the odd item is not feasible. So, low volume sellers are pretty much tied into using eBay, as there is no viable alternative. Alternatives such as eBid have failed to take off sadly (sellers reluctant to put stuff for sale on there as they think they'll get a bad price due to lack of users. Lack of users as sellers reluctant to put stuff on there. Self-reinforcing cycle of failure).
So, for the time being low volume sellers are effectively stuck using eBay - as a business model they've got it sown up and I tip my hat to them. But, sellers still dislike them due what is perceived as excessive charges. The only thing eBay has is their user base and without that they're finished. They don't actually provide much of a service for their 10% cut. If the user base were to move away to competitors, they'd have to change the business model. But the user base will stay put, as buyers don't realise how much cheaper their item could be sold for, were it not for the extortionate fees. We're well and truly stuck with eBay, sadly.

If everyone that moaned about ebay moved to ebid then ebid would be a rival.
As usual though the majority are all talk and no action.
True, but it won't happen for the reasons in my post above. As usual though the majority are all talk and no action.
What eBid needs is an concentrated advertising campaign blitz to attract buyers and sellers, as 95% of people I know who use eBay, have no idea what eBid is. Exposure is all that's needed - it's a foolproof self-reinforcing business model. Frankly I'm amazed that some venture capitalist hasn't stepped in to fund a load of adverts - the business model itself has been proven to work and it's not as if the market is saturated. With the right exposure, it's a sure money-maker.
