Fan Overide Switch Advice

I want to have a switch on the dash to turn the cooling fans on if the thermostatic switch in the rad fails . I intend to run this parallel with the thermo' switch but also have an LED light on the dash wired in ; one side to earth and the other to the none earth side of one of the fans . This should light up whichever switch turns the fans on . Is all this correct ?
I'd rather double check than wait for the fire .

Frank, a thought: I hate cluttered dash boards. If installed correctly you will run this car for years without using the switch. I carry a jumper wire mounted with an adel clamp next to the fan switch. If the switch ever fails I will stop the car an attach each end of the jumper to the respective points on the switch and go about my way. By storing it on an adel next to the switch I will be able to find it when I need it. Dash is cleaner and no jumper rolling around in the storage bin for years on end. Just a thought. Lee

Not sure I'm understanding you Lee.Are you saying you have a fan switch on the dash but carry a jump wire in case the switch fails? Also have not heard of an adel clamp so could be adding to my confusion.
Frank. The factory switch has a light in it and as you say the light will come on whichever way the fans are activated so at least you know they have kicked in.

Steve: no swithch on the dash. If the car begans to run hot and the fans aren't comming on that means the switch has failed in the off posistion. I would then pull the two leads that attach to the fan switch and attach one end of my backup jumper cable to both sides of the fan switch which would by pass the switch and allow the fan to run. The adel clamp that I refer to is usually used to hold wires to the frame in aircraft its a little D shaped piece that the wire runs through and then it is attached to the frame. In this instance I leave the jumper long enogh so that both ends of the jumper will reach thier respective attachment points on the fan switch without removing the wire from the adel clamp. Thank you everbody . I didn't realise Ultima did an overide switch , let alone with a light . In UK if we hold up the traffic to play with our car we get linched by an angry mob ; so panick switch on dash is vital . Most people in UK run away when their car breaks down in a queue ; thats where you'll be when your engine starts to overheat !
