I drove my car into work on Monday, into Kingston and parked up in the Permit Holders only spaces as normal. Always stick Trevor on an end space so only one car can park next in front or behind me.

Normally no problems. Went back to the car at 6ish to go home and what initially concerned me was seeing an Audi had wedged itself in the smallest space possible in front of me. To my horror on closer inspection I found the car parked in front had damaged the front end of my service bonnet!

Not to worry though I recognised the car as a women who works in our office building so popped up to her office to try and sort it out.

I knew it was going to require a respray as some of the scratches are quite deep. So approached it with caution and was very nice about requesting she come down and have a look, which she did.

She denied it was her! said the damage must have been there already as she would have felt it if her car had hit mine! The damage was lined up exactly with the level of her bonnet it was so obviously her that had done it, I replied "i know every stone chip on my car and i know it wasnt there until you parked up" I also commented on the state of her car by saying "look at the state of your car, i mean its not the first time you have hit something is it?"

She then walked off saying there was nothing I can do to prove its her.

Im fuming!

Here are the pics, what do you rekon?

This one shows the line of scratches and stress marks

Popped down BeeGee to pick up my new grill, and to get a quote and I'm looking at the best part of £400 to repair!

Thanks a lot! furious

Did you take any pictures of her car and the placement at the time? Write down her reg number.

Check to see if there were any witnesses.

I'd treat it like an accident, call the BIB, and your insurers if you have pictures.

Hi Mossy,

It could have been a lot worse. I very nearly took my Chim on Friday but as the Subaru was parked in front of it and I was only going local I left it at home. I parked at the kerb while visiting somebody and a complete numpty simply drove in to it at about 30mph, just not looking at the road!! The whole rear corner and the exhaust system completely trashed and £3,800 to fix it. If that was the TVR I've no doubt that it would have been a write-off.

Was there any of YOUR paint on HER bumper? Take pics if not already done so last night.

I'm pretty sure I've read other people managing to sue for repair costs with paint rubs as evidence.

Dozy bint.

On my monitor at least it looks like there is a clean patch on her bumper which would line up with the stratches. Show these pictures to her and even if there is no cctv say there is or that a witness has come forward and she may just admit it. Worth a try, you have nothing to loose.

Bad luck. Similar happened to me when a dozy bint reversed a Landrover with tow bar into my Griff some years ago... she took out my taillight and punched a hole right through the body..... and denied it! But, you dozy cow, I saw you and heard the crunch! Still denied it.

I got the police involved and they went round to hers for a 'chat'.

Didn't do any good mind, but it is something.

I was fking furious.

Best wishes.

I am gutted for you mossy. You drive past my home on King Charles every day as the rumble is very recognisable. I can't take the Cerb into Kingston as Bittoms is such a hell hole for parking so I make do with driving other cars. Getting as much evidence as you can is the only way to win this. Any photographic images or paint flecks are invaluable in nailing this ratbag. Goodluck.

Please blip the throttle as you drive past later :0)

Unfortunately without the benefit of 'CSI' a bit difficult to prove who was moving at the time, ie you forward or her in reverse. So without an admission or witness/CCTV probably all going to come out of your insurance or pocket I'm afraid.
However as already stated worth informing her that police will be called and 'I hope your insurance road tax and mot are in order because they'll need to be checking them', judging by the state of the car they might have been overlooked wink and force her hand. Good luck.

You can prove it.

Paint trace can be matched from either / both vehicles. You need to find details of a suitable lab of which there are several, e.g.

http://www.lgc.co.uk/

From whichever you choose, ensure they offer that particular form of analytical service. Then, establish the potential cost of analysis. Finally, have an informal conversation with her, tell her your concerns and that you have enquired about the above. When the match is complete, you will be taking legal action in order to recover the cost of the damge, the inconvenience and the cost of anlaysis. Further, you will be informing the police about a failure to stop following an RTA (you could try private action for that too).

The object of the above is to make her see sense and deal with it. She may be worried about her partner and their reaction, but the above would be far worse.

Hope that helps a liitle and good luck.

Thanks ladies and gents for the advice and words.

Im afraid this is one of those times where you have to take it on the chin. My excess is fairly high on my protected insurance so will pay for the repairs in cash at the end of the summer, at least I can remove all of the stone chips at that point.

Im aware of the law, what they can do, more importantly what they are prepared to do and what you can get out of it.

No witnesses, no statements, no marking on her vehicle. But its obvious its her, in fact I know for a fact it is.

So no need to involve the police as nothing will come of it. But as they say what goes around comes around ... evil

Anyhow, here is a nicer pic of my Future 'Le Mans' winning Nephew enjoying Trevor (although he does say its a bit noisey) just before we went for a blast with the roof off, window out smile

That is all well and good but all this would prove is that the 2 cars met at some point. It could have been either party driving, so as said before without cctv or a witness your pretty buggerd.

If she works at the same place as you can't you pursue it that way? It can't be acceptable for one employee to bash into another employees car in the car park and act like this surely? Don't know what it's like at your place but if anybody working with me did this they'd regret it pretty quick.

We are 2 seperate companies working within the same building. So unfortunately may pass each other in the corridoor but have no jurisdiction over each other.

Plate stuck on with gaffer tape. Nice.

Had a similar thing happen about 15 years ago and was rescued by a witness. Sure nobody saw it? Do you know anyone who works at her place? If not, any mileage in putting a sign up on a few noticeboards at work? Good luck with it...

Yes, I wasn't actually suggesting going to the police, I meant go through the motions so she is aware he knows what to do and use it as leverage in negotiations. The police will not normally be bothered (unless of course they have had reports on her, but that is unlikely).

It would at least bring some satisfaction to make her feel unfomfortable.

Sorry to see this, sounds very stressful! I'd show the pics to her Boss, and just ask an open question to see if there is anything that he can do. At least it'd put a little pressure on her to own up (if she does actually realise she did it).
Don't forget though that the fibreglass is so light that it may well be that she honestly didn't feel the car bumping, so in her mind she's right. I think the state of her car shows how careful a driver she is though!
