I don't think this is a repost. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising hands-on from IGN UK: CLICKY CLIKCY

Sounds brilliant. I really can not wait for this game.

I remember flying the helicopter on the original version was very satisfying; I hope they bring this back and recreate the same realism. By the sound of it this should be a corking game.

Does anyone have any better idea of a release date?

That looks amazing!

For years I've wanted a combat sim with a dgree of realism and where some stealth/strategy/camoflage/skill is more important than button-bashing and running around all-guns-blazing (like COD).

I can't wait to get this.

Have you never tried the original Operation Flashpoint, or ArmA? Awesome games, you could spend half a lifetime lost in those smile

ArmA 2 will be at least as good as this, I can see myself ending up with both

In the meantime pick up Armed Assault and the Expansion pack which is exactly what you want and is out on budget etc...

Cant wait for OP Flashpoint biggrin

How good is Queen's Gambit? is it a similar size to the basic game?

Queens Gambit is a great add-on

But beware.... AA doesnt run on Vista frown There are fixes but they arent very good from what I have found (I am running Vista 64 Ultimate for my sins) So I have another disk with XP on to play AA biggrin

I thought that trailer looked pretty outdated, certainly not even as good as BF Bad Company or CoD4 in terms of movement, sound or graphics.

Hopefully it will be all about the Combat though.

my abiding memory of operation flashpoint is the mission where you get captured, are inside a tent, being guarded and have to escape back to friendly territory.

obviously, because the game is so open ended there are a few ways to do it. I started off trying to do it by waiting until nightfall, sneaking off and trying to navigate by the stars (no map or compass) to my end of the island. This was far too difficult.

In the end I managed to run from the tent, to a Hind helicopter that was sat in the middle of the enemy base, nick it whilst under fire and escape using the chopper smile strafing the camp on the way out, of course.

great game smile

I can remember crawling for ages to get into position only to be shot in the head and killed instantly - several times. hehe

That was a great mission. I too waited for dark and then sneaked out of the base. I managed to use the stars to ensure I was going in the right direction. I can remember lying at the edge of a forest in the pitch black as a BMP rolled past with its lights on, hoping I would not be seen. The sounds of enemy vehicles suddenly become more menacing in the dark, especially when you are not sure where they are. It was quite a relief when I finally saw some allied troops at the end.

One of the missions that got me was the one where you had to escape without any weapons through the woods, dodging soldiers all the time. Very tricky...

I have the money to upgade but the 360 is still running fine. I know the flashpoint experience will be better on the PC but it seems a bit daft to upgrade a PC for one game.

(It would mean I could then buy Company of Heros as I have played this on a friends system and loved it. Current home system can not handle it)

Very much worth an upgrade as things like Empire really do benefit from a decent spec machine. And Company of heroes is an ace game!

Am looking forward to both this and AA2 this year!
