Emerald Data Logging
Discussion
Tried to do some of this at the weekend just to have a nosey to see whats going on and learn a but more about whats going on when.
Only problem is I cant seem to get any readings.
I have been into and set the start and end parameters , even done them really low and set off and nothing..Does anyone know if there is something else i need to be setting to get it to work.
Have looked in the manual etc and cant seem tofind anything, even downloaded the datalogging manual on emeralds site and it doesnt tell me much more.
TIA

Daft answer I looked and couldnt find anywhere that was for starting it? I thought with the page open and the parameters set and that would be it. The four buttons on the right dont start /stop it they just zoom in/out etc. The two drop down tabs at the top left of it when open dont have anything to say start stop..Just save file open file etc?

I've used it quite a bit but think I used the auto record feature triggered off coolant temperature (ie something record above 30degC and below 180degC). However, there was a problem with the resulting traces being displayed correctly (think it was coolant readings) although the logger was reading them properly. Karl gave me a correction to apply to logs files to convert the displayed outputs to the true read figures and advised me a software update was being written to sort the bug. Have never followed it up however as I worked round it and am pretty happy with current set up so not logging now.
Apart from that one aspect, it worked well for me but I was/am concerned that driving along with a laptop open and running is asking for a nicking...

Here was my query:

When looking at logs I've captured recently (only just started playing with this feature), it is apparent that data from channels assigned to air temp and coolant temp are being misreported. Air temp is typically showing in the log as -2deg C, whereas in live adjustments it shows whatever is the ambient figure (ie 19 deg C), similarly, coolant is showing typically at 30deg C whereas the reported fig on the live adjustments screen is typically circa 90 deg C (I suspect this is actually reading a little high against real temp but have not tried to refine the calibration yet).
And the advised 'fix':emerald said:
Sorry if you've been on a wild goose chase with this one. There's an issue that causes previously saved log files to display the air/coolant values incorrectly.
I can give you a revised version of the K3 software on Friday that deals with this problem.
In the meantime, your existing saved log files can be fixed very easily. Just edit each of your *.lg2 files. At the bottom of the file you'll have 5 digits following the line "[ValU]", e.g.
[ValU]
01000
Insert a carriage return between each digit so they are on separate lines, e.g.
[ValU]
0
1
0
0
0
Now save the file (overwrite the existing file).
When you load this log file back into the data-logger the air/coolant temp readings will display correctly.
