Well worth a read... briefly it's about Dubai being essentially 10%
s and 90% slaves.
On the negative side, the article is written by Johann "Make s
t up" Hari and published in the Independent.
On the plus side, it sounds entirely plausible to me.
I know there are plenty of ex pats here, so waddya say?

"I approach a blonde 17-year-old Dutch girl wandering around in hotpants, oblivious to the swarms of men gaping at her. "I love it here!" she says. "The heat, the malls, the beach!" Does it ever bother you that it's a slave society? She puts her head down, just as Sohinal did. "I try not to see," she says. "
how profound, from someone who loves the heat and beaches.

£120 a month. Live in 'squalor camps' with overflowing toilets, eating fish/meat 1 or 2 times a month. Rice/Bread at all other times.
Had to pay £2000 to get a 'visa' to work in Dubai against a promise of riches.

"I saw a young homeless man, he had pictures of his children around him. I passed him a tightly folded note. He looked up at me and said "Cry not for me, for I am already dead, cry for yourself, and what you may become"
I walked on, and stopped, falling to my knees.
Had life really come to this, in my beloved Dubai?"

Of course, the reporter is not interested in mere facts like that, as nobody would be interested in reading the drivel.
