Someone mentioned on another thread that its 117 miles. So assuming its closed to other traffic and no police chasing you do you think your car could lap the M25 in less than an hour?

Im not sure about mine. The top speed in the book is 135mph and I have seen 120/125 mph on the clock with it still pulling (on a closed track obviously officer). Petrol tank is big enough to get all the way round. I think the main problem is its not flat and straight, lots of ups and downs and there are bends that im not sure mine could take at 120+.

The suspension has been tweeked with stiffened anti roll bars, shocks and springs, perhaps some maxed out runs on the straights and slowing for some of the tighter bends might work. Assuming a standing start as well so you have to factor actually reaching 120 in the first place. IM 50/50 but would like to give it a try. nuts

I am pretty sure Lonman once posted on here in going around in 67 mins or something.

If the road was closed then easily done, it would be a bit noisy though.

Wouldn't the gantry cameras make it a bit of a problem? or are you going to "borrow" a set of number plates first!?

They should close the M25 a weekend every year for a Le Mans series race. Remove some armco in a couple of places to make a pitlane entry and exit,
then have a big 24 hour sportscar race! I'd imagine some of the bends would be pretty hairy at around 180mph!

Great idea but I'd guess there would be concerns about the surface quality (or lack thereof!).

I suppose you could have a roof mounted rail gun to take them out. But then that would cause drag and slow you down

On the other hand, as I suggested that they closed the road I don't suppose they would have the cameras on. In the same way as the Frence police do not fine drivers on the Mulsane straight during Le Mans weekend.

Thats part of the challenge like in the old days with open racers with no seat belts.

I think i could do it in both mine.

Wikipedia said:
The orbital nature of the motorway, in common with racetracks, lent itself to unofficial, and illegal, motor racing. At the end of the 1980s, before the advent of speed enforcement devices, owners of supercars, many employed in the financial service industry in the City and in Docklands, would meet at night at services stations such as South Mimms and conduct time trials. Times below 1 hour were achieved; an average speed of over 117 mph (188 km/h), which included coming to a halt at the Dartford Tunnel toll payment booths.[14][15]

Back in 2002 (funnily enough, in the GT2!!) i did a lap in 45 mins and something seconds. No video evidence though. (146ish average). To be fair though, we did it for a laugh, not for a record, so anyone with a 150mph motor, would, in theory, be able to beat it.

There are uphill sections, but i'd say quite alot are flat, and there are definately downhill sections too.

Would be fun to try.. The C2 would be going mad at that kind of speed. 'Top' is 125mph or close.

The point was, do you think you in your car could do it, not whether a few people in supercars could do it.

Early mornings on the M25 near the M23 junction are surreal. Fast, very very fast. At 4:30 am I have seen cars doing near as damnit 2.0 leptons J7 for nearly all the way to J10. The north bit between the M1 and Hatfield does not have particularly good line of sight so perhaps the speeds will have to drop there ..
