At Manchester they did away with the pick-up areas some time ago, making collecting someone, which I have to do reqularly for work, a right pain.

Personally I avoid Luton at all costs - what a hole of an airport (and somehow flying from Heathrow was voted a worse experience!).

Think most airports have (certainly Gatwick South and Heathrow T5), so just have them meet you at the departures drop off area!

Although obviously that trick won't work at Luton now...

I have done that on occasion, but the airport authorities are "monitoring" that. How long will it be before they take snap of the car and send a fixed penalty?

What will they send it for? Using the bay as intended? They can't really fine you for using the bay to drop/pick passengers, only for exceeding time limits etc.

It's for drop-off only. It's pretty obvious if you're picking someone up. Airport authorities can make their own enforceable laws.

Luton's OK - and reasonably convenient for me.

Apart frome ease of access/getaway, what else do you really need from an airport any more? You can't say you go there for the luxury shopping & dining experience?

In my mind, the smaller the better. Even though I live 20 mins from Heathrow I avoid it like the plague.

I'm flying into Luton tonight and then out again on Tuesday. Not bad and 100 times better than the old peoples home that is Bournemouth Airport

Just drop them off at Luton Airport Parkway train station. There's a free (for now) shuttle bus to the airport.
