Following from my 'Sulphur Whiff' thread on the Griffith forum...

I think that either my Lambda Sensors are knackered or the cat has clawed itself apart.

The car is not running very well, holding back when accelerating and cutting out periodically.

Not looking forward to the main dealer having a look to confirm my worse fears!

Think of the cats as decayed teeth. Professional extraction is about £500.

If it's the main cat not the Pre-cat they can be taken out using a long screwdriver type implement and vigorous stabbing movements to break the rest up, takes a few days but saves £'s. A friend has done this on his Griffith 500 and apparantly this creates no MOT testing problems.

I removed my precats using the long bar method, does take a while but worth it. Providing the car is hot at MOT, no problem either.

Surely it's the pre-cats that can be removed with no effect on the MOT, not the main? Rich...

I think you're right, he did them a while back and it took so long to smash them to pieces and take the bits out I obviously forgot what they were in the first place.

In simple terms:- thing broke, smashed rest, emptied out, more noise, passed MOT.

You might be able to do a home lobotomy on the precats, but will you need to change the ECU etc (as on a full decat?)

Still got the emmisions check certicate from last years MOT with pre-cats.

Now have this years without pre-cats and there is very liitle difference... Still well under the limits

A while back my Cerb was feeling a little sluggish when accelerating, and just didn't feel to be running "quite right", was quickly diagnosed as lambda sensors which were replaced & put through on the warranty. Admittedly, it was put through on the warranty as a fuel pump, but still...
