I bought a recon unit for my evo, it arrived quite quickly and fixed the running problems, sent back the old unit and was refunded the surcharge quickly.
The unit wasn't silent like you'd expect from a new unit but was good value for money at £350 rather than 2K.
Is you vanos broken or just noisy? if its just noisy I'd be tempted to leave it alone.
