Discussion
No ideas on cost but make interesting reading anyway:

I had a diff leak too, and had to replace # 15, after having replaced 17 and 18 without permanently fixing it. A small ridge had slowly appeared in the output flange, which was causing the leak. The mechanic was able to change that in less than hour second time round, whereas it was 2 hours the first time.

Is this common, easy/hard to fix?? rough cost etc etc..
Anyone know of a good indi around Henley/Maidenhead?
That is all

Very common problem although most diffs will leak when they are getting on a bit as oil will escape over a long period of time. BMW quoted £300 to fo mine.Anyone know of a good indi around Henley/Maidenhead?

They will need to drop the diff down and pull the half shafts out rather than dismantle the suspension and pull the half shafts out buy moving the hubs. The latter is much more time consuming and may be the option taken by a garage not in the know. Better to take to good indi or dealers as will take less time anyway.
Try Either of these :
Give Gary @ Autobahn Services a shout. He is in Rickmansworth and although a tad unusual really knows his stuff, has years of Alpina a M experience.
Also drop Phil Crouch a line at CPC. Currently in Marlow but soon to be moving to Chorleywood. Tel 07960 280953
