Finance people, do you believe that Private Equity is dead from the perspective of future job prospects? I was at one time toying with the idea of moving into PE, but now I am not so sure. Would be really interested to hear comments from those on the inside.

It may not be dead but certainly slumbering heavily. I worked for a PE but moved across to one of the investment fund accounts and bloody glad I did. Also if your background is Finance then you may struggle to find a position. What's short on the ground is good Operational Managers/Directors with a proven track history of cost reduction, at the moment.

Naturally the big appeal is the equity payout and sadly these have dropped to bugger all (google Candover Investments or 3i for a general feel).
