Each year we have a collection, run plant sales, hold firework displays ands BBQs amongst the 100 or so houses in our village to raise funds to fill hayracks and troughs with summer flowers through our village. It always looks fabulous and people travel from miles around to see them. Over the years we have bought hayracks and troughs to put throuh the village.

Early hours Saturday someone stole the lot; 12 hayracks unscrewed from the wall (complete with recently planted summer flowers) and 8 troughs.

I wonder what world they live in where the few bob they got for them at some car boot was worth the effort?

From our end, all the reserves we had to maintain and water them have gone, in order to replace them, but we dare not replace them until the plants are too large to carry/sell so the usual 4 or 5 months of flowers will be a month or so in July/August.

Words (except the above )fail me.

I've got half barrels outside my house and the local neds think it's great fun to pick them up and throw them into the canal or dump them on some poor sod's bonnet of their car.

Well out of order. I grow loads of plants every year from seed and would be gutted if they where stolen.

Or those mines that spring up to head height and blow up sending shards of razor sharp metal everywhere. Then they could display the theiving pikey's heads outside the village as a warning to any other tea leaves who fancy thier chances

One word explains this - Pikeys.

If it isn't cemented into the ground or on fire they'll nick it.

We have loads on the way into our village, so im sure its only a matter of time before 1000 dafs get nicked/vandalized.

I had the garden trashed a couple of years ago, didnt nick anything from the shed, but took everything out of the garden.
Guessing we might get 'revisited' some clumsy sole dropped a razorblade and it landed right on the bolt behind the gate.
Scrote arrives, tries bolt, screams, leaves.

The amount of blood was amazing.

Probably sold them all at a local car boot or sold the metal to a scrappy.

Only way to stop it again would be to anchor them to the wall and then weld up any nuts and bolts.

Here in aus your letterbox is normally half way down your front yard. You can buy little concrete replica's of English style red letterboxes, they look naff but plenty of people have them.
Anyway I once had a neighbour with one but one night the thing got stolen...a concrete letterbox that had been set in a bed of concrete. The hole in the ground must have been a good 2 foot wide and 2 foot deep so lord know how heavy the thing was or how the scrotes got it out without anyone hearing it!

Suspicions would maybe fall on any local pikeys (or even not so local if they have been coming thourgh the village maybe). (Although as part fo the great unwashed, no doubt some on here will berate me for making this comment!)

I'd guess at this as anyone vauguely "conformist" ie with a legitimate van/ truck, address, mortgage, income job etc, is surely at too great a risk to be caught and "dealt severely" by the courts (made an example of)?

As a non conformist, annonymous pikey though, not only will they never be caught (as it will infringe is unman rites to set foot on his illegal camp), but as "eee aint got nowt" the Courts wont issue a fine and dare not incarcerate him as who will look after his 19 illegitimate children?

I am afraid as we move into depenning recesion, and people stop having their tree's culled (I mean professionally operated on by a proper tree surgeon) and even less have their drive painted blacker (I mean professioinaly resurfaced), said transiants will resort to even more theiving "offof them what cann celarly afford it!".

As a fundraiser too, you have my considerable sympathies, fella!

But seriously....these are the same feckwits who run over cars, key cars and generally destroy anything which they don't have in their own pathetic lives!
Look to the great unwashed or the dole sponging chavs in your area to find the culprits!

I had two potted plants stolen from my front garden on Sunday afternoon.

The mind boggles.
