Where do the engines come from?

Where do TVR source all their Rover engines from.

Are the just bought from rover then bored out? Or made in the factory? Or sourced from old SD1's and LandRovers in scrapyards?

Silly question i'm sure, but I've always wondered!!

Bought new from Land Rover (Ford now.) Re-built by TVR.

Where did that figure come from if I may ask? A current 4.6 is a lot fatter then the old sd1 3.5 and 1000cc less then the chevy.

Where do the engines come from? That's quite interesting because I've seen tvr engines with rover vin numbers stamped into them, along with the rover compression of 9.35:1.

My guess is that these engines were originally allocated to Range Rovers and then a whole batch of them were pulled 'off the line' and sold to tvr when they then got stamped with a tvr engine number as well.

As for any 96mm block engines, I suspect a lot of these could be warranty returned 94mm blocks with water leakages and these could be repaired at the same time as fitting 96mm liners. Skim the deck and voila, a new 96mm engine block.

Rover also provided engines in component form to kit car manufacturers for a lot less then the public would pay but that's kinda like a trade secret.

It was delayed for a shed full of reasons but the car will be here in a month or to. I have absolutely no doubt that it will fit though. It's smaller in many respects. I recently discovered 'hush hush' that it will fit into an SE eight. Watch out, nutter about!
