Still trying to decide whether to buy a 450d or a 40d , tried and liked both , i like the weight and size of the 450 , but I take a lot of action (mountain biking) shots -so the 6.5fps of the 40 tempts me but i have to carry the camera while out on the bike.
So will I wish I saved up for the 40d or are people content with there choice of a 450. I'm by no means a pro , but hate that feeling that I've bought the wrong kit. I suppose I'm answering my own question , but was interested if some of you guys have been through the same quandry.

Cheers Cone

I have the 350 and 40D, and have to say that the 350D is used very little (or as a backup/secondary camera). If you do action stuff, then the 40D is the way to go!

I spent a little more on the 40d and so far think it's worth every penny.

I bought a 40D as I plan to do much more action shooting and the 350D I used to have was struggling. I have loved the 40D ever since.
Of course this is completely the wrong answer to your thread title, so disregard everything I've said wink

I bought a 450d over a 40d.

I had a bridge camera which has all the size of a dslr with none of the flexability.

I didn't want to get anything larger and the 450d fitted the bill. I purchased the twin lens bundle which are suitable for my needs and I cannot fault the camera at all.

The 450d has live view if thats your bag and a slightly better amount of mega pixels.

Depends on your budget, I could have stretched myself although I didn't really want to as the 40d was the same price as my bundle for just the body at the time.

I don't have any experiences of the 40d but I love my 450d!

Blatant plug but some of my shots are here, don't look the best due to web compression but you get the idea.

Can't really answer the question you ask, but I bought a 40D and I've never regretted that particular purchase.

I looked at both, and bought the 450.

I wasn't particularly bothered about the frame rate, and I felt that the live view for shots in awkward positions more that outweighed it, but overall, I just couldn't be doing with the sheer bulk of the 40D.

No doubt some people like it, but if like me you want to take the body, a gorillapod and a lens or two in cabin luggage on business trips, forget it!

I'm sure the 40D doesn't need all the extra space. Just a shame they didn't provide it with a 450D body as an option!

That's what it comes down to IMHO - which do you like the feel of better? The bigger, heavier, sturdier 40D or the smaller, lighter but fiddlier (IMHO) 450D?

Kermit - most of the weight penalty is due to the magnesium body on the 40D (high-impact plastic on the 450D), which is tougher and more shock/knock-resistant.

Comparing a 40D with my 350D theres very little difference in weight in the hand, 40D is nicer to hold and IMo is a cracking all round camera.

Not like the 450D is a bad camera either but I'd take the 40D over it, espiaclay if sports is any consideration. 40D is by far the best sports camera anywhere near its price.
