Picked my car up over the weekend, and been out enjoying it cloud9 ... Still not pictures. Will clean and polish it at the weekend.

Want to buy a couple of litres of oil for the garage to top it up if it needs any. What oil do people recommend using on the E46 M3?

It should have Castrol edge/TWS 10W 60.

Related, what's the oil quantity on the S54 ?

Is it still cheaper to provide your own oil for a service - opieoils are selling Edge for about £45 per 4 ltrs

Morning AA.

Mine's an 02 Black with Black leather SMG car with 77k on it. Got nearly all the options boxes ticked inc HK and nav. Full main dealer history including a big scary bill at the start of this year for flywheel, clutch, pump and other related SMG bits. It's on 18's rather than 19's, and it in a really genuine and original condition.

Got a really good deal on it (IMHO), and searched long and hard before choosing that one. Viewed far too many independant dealer cars that were advertised at top money, but were really scruffy. Hope I'm not tempting fate, however my shopping experiences would lead me to conclude that it is worth looking beyond just the mileage of a car, as it's condition, history, and how well it had been maintained and cared for that matters.

Well chuffed with it, and a weekend cleaning and polishing will get it ready for pictures to be taken smile

Sound great mate, congratulations!

I'm presuming you have no (lengthy) previous experience of SMG2 and I'd be very interested in hearing your opinions on it?

Driven it before, but only quick 10 minute blasts in mates cars. Getting used to it quickly, and enjoying it. Parking and manovering aren't as easy as with your own foot doing the clutch - trying to be gentle and not drive full pelt into my garage on my up-hill drive smile

Had a quick go with the shift speed at max with sport button on, and it really does fire through the gears quickly - TOO brutally IMO, with little mechanical sympathy. Not something I plan to do requlary. Shift speed 3 or 4 is fine.

A friend of mine states an issue with pulling away from roundabouts etc in shift pattern 2, says it tends to hold 2nd gear far too long for such a low setting?

Your comments do make me wonder, because as much as I like the idea of "playing Lewis Hamilton/Button/etc" I do also like to be in absolute control

Hmmmmmmmmm

I took a long time to decide which box to go for, and even when getting out to look at cars I was looking at both trying to find the best car I could get for my budget.

I'd certainly advise trying an SMG before dismissing it, so you can form your own opinions.

Just sorting all the DVLA crapola now, putting a private plate on which will no doubt complicate issues!

For an E46 M3 you need the Castrol Edge 10w-60, it's the only recommended oil.

John P, based on what the customers tell us, one guy was quoted £170 for the oil change in his M6 by a local dealership. I think he paid about £80 from us. It's £39.16 for 4 litres and £74.38 for 8 litres from us for the Edge 10w-60

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-715-castrol-edge-10w-6...

You get a 10% discount off the public prices (as well as more discounts with multiples) for being Pistonheads members

Cheers

Good work! Looking forward to some pictures thumbup

If god can resist hurling water at me tomorrow, I'm planning a complete clean and polish, then pick a venue for some pictures smile

Back to oil, anyway, I got 4 litres for £45 delivered to my door.

to the OP: it's set out in the handbook and on a sticker under the bonnet.
