Hi guys,

If anyone is interested in a nice Sunday drive, the Crazy Bear in Stadhampton really takes the chocolate hobnob.

I will risk sitting on my own nursing a pint, by declaring that I shall be there at The Crazy Bear in Stadhampton, this Sunday at 3pm, with a green Lotus Carlton (complete with PH Sticker), for an hour or so. Whether there be rain, snow or nuclear war. And even if it's shut for some daft reason (as all best made plans can get scuppered) we'll drive to another pub.

I don't mean to form a splinter group from the Shire Horse crew at Maidenhead, but the Crazy Bear is a great pub on the end of some great roads. Real Sunday pub stuff. It is also 'northern' enough to get the Northants and Oxford guys along.

So, there's a time and a place.

Is anyone going to join me?

PS Is that a tumbleweed drifting towards me ;-)
PPS A rather long and convoluted URL follows. You'll need to copy and paste, but if it doesn't work go to www.yell.co.uk and search for 'Crazy Bear' under name of business, and 'Stadhampton' under location. Map and directions are on the yell site.

Domster,

Would love to but might be struggling - got a couple of mates coming down to stay for the weekend and by the time they've set off up the M40 and my hangover has cleared the better half might not be so keen...so I might see you there, or then again, I might not.

Paul.

Domster - Normally I'd be right there, but I'm carless for now, find out tomorrow whether they fix it or I get the $$'s.

Hi guys,

I will try and keep this thread nice and current and near the top of the thread until Sunday. As I say, I WILL be there.

Umar - the Crazy Bear is accessible from a number of routes, many of which are quite difficult to describe. The route I go is:

- M40 J6, head towards Watlington (left off sliproad)
- once thru Watlington (tiny village) take right at T junction
- road forks after about 200 yards, head right off main road down fork
- over mini roundabout and onto twisty country roads through a tiny villag (Cuxham?), Half Moon pub on right
- follow the road round to the right, then continue on the twisties
- onto long straight (about 2 miles long, good visibility, like a runway, but with a junction half way up so don't pull a ton fifty unless you know the road!)
- twisties near the end of the straight as you approach Stadhampton, village green on your left
- take a left at the roundabout at the end
- in Stadhampton village, drive slowly past Gatso and Petrol station on your left
- 50 yards after petrol station, road jinks right towards Oxford, but you go left
- entrance is about 50 yards on left - easy to miss, so take it slowly
- car park is big gravel car park

It'll take about 15-20 minutes from J6 M40.

People in Oxford can get to it quicker using the ring road and turning off at the Cowley roundabout, heading towards Watlington. It is only about 10 mins from there, and the Oxford dogs stadium.

C'mon guys - I know there's a few more of you out there - like gavinr - who live locally.

The Crazy Bear is a great pub in any case, and totally partner-friendly. Bring 'em along for lunch before!

Then kick them out when the talk turns to sprockets and gudgeon pins ;-)

(Don't worry - I don't have a beard or a fixation with real ale, so the conversation won't be too bad).

Not sure you wanna publicly announce this. Might attract all sorts of undesirables "looking over" the car park...

Probably means security.

The car park is very private to the pub, and can be viewed from the tables outside if the weather is good. They also have CCTV and that kind of thing. It is a 'low risk' venue as far as I'm concerned.

Besides, my LC has more security than you can shake a stick at and it's up for sale, so if it got nicked I wouldn't mind too much ;-)

Should be up for that providing it doesn't break down again! Sounds like their should be a good selection off cars going.
"Weather permiting" don't Tamora's come with roofs then. I've found that you don't get wet if you keep the speed up with the roof down.
Don't miss out on a fun afternoon just 'cause off a bit off rain.

By weather permitting I mean if it's really nice I fancy a drive down through the Cotswolds, if it's so-so then I will be meeting everyone for lunch

Excellent stuff boys. I'm sure Ted will have a beer bought for him - especially if he turns up in his Bentley ARnage Red Label!

Should be able to make that as long as it's not raining. No I'm not in a Chimp or Griff, I'm in a Cerby, but my wipers packed in last night

Well, i may make it myself. I'm at Tower Bridge on saturday night getting wrecked, and if i come it'll be in my bike-engined-car with no roof, a little perspex wind deflector and a waterproof jacket!

Hope to see you all there.
