Was driving to the station this morning and came round the roundabout by Tesco as per usual (Skimpot Roundabout, Luton/Dunstable border) and went for my usual exit: the bypass. Took the right-hand lane and passed a couple of queueing cars to pull in ahead. Some complete muck-chucker in a white Renault 5 (no bodykit - makes it practically unique!) sits half an inch off my back bumper whilst gesticulating wildly and cursing my entire family. Although I'm sure this unparalleled display of cerebral dexterity marks him as the top swimmer in his gene pool what the dippy twonk failed to realise was that it was a FILTER LANE! Would have welcomed the opportunity to calmly explain this to him at the next junction but he veered off down a side road - the chickenshit!

Some places are a complete nightmare - Drove in Colchester for the first time this w/e - Jeez..

Also, it is fair to say that most people have no idea what is the correct lane to be in so I am often forced to take evasive action - This also includes the ever so tricky driving in your own lane while travelling forwards that some people have difficulty with.

Coventry ringroad. I've been lost there at midnight, (no traffic so I could take my time) and even with an up to date A-Z it's an absolute nightmare!

I think local councils send thier peroposals to "headoffice" at longleat where the top boffins known only as "chimps" get to make changes to the plans, these are then sent out back to the local authoritys to cock up any road that seems too easy to navigate

Dear deirdre, what should i do? I need help. I can get onto the M1 from the Finchley road no problem. but i can't do it in reverse. i always end up going round the north circular. Sometimes i go out at night to practice when no one is looking but it hasn't helped. I am getting a complex.

Leeds city centre. A-Z no use: the one way system changes so often that it's out of date pretty quickly.

Seems to respond well to the "acheiving orbit" method: drive round and round it at increasing speed until you find your exit and fly off at a tangent.

Strange you should mention Leeds...

I have a new job that involves driving around the country late at night/early in morning (it's all legal honest)

Done a few nights in London - no problems getting in and out.

But Leeds - always easy to get in from the M1 - but never got out of Leeds the same way out twice. And always seems like twice as far, with 10 times the number of junctions.

I have given up trying to figure Birmingham out. Use the above mentioned 'escape velocity' method.

Cheers, Phil
