Oil & Fuel tips ????
Discussion
Hi - I've recently become the v.proud owner of a '90 S2 - looks fantastic & sounds even better - apparently it's got a stereo, but haven't tired of the exhaust note yet !!!
Wondered if you have any thoughts/recommendations/experience of best engine oil to use ?
I heard 10/40, but in Halfords today & under Ford 2.9, Ford recommend 5/30 mineral (if I remember correctly)
Also any advice on fuel - is super unleaded giving any better running/performance/longevity then standard for a 2.9 ?
Appreciate any feed back.
Thanks

You have an excellent taste in cars.
You don't need to use super duper expensive oil on these machines. 10 40 is a good oil, it's an old engine so thickness is good.
As for the fuel, put in whatever you would put a 2.9 Scorpio! Super unleaded only has any benefits with tuned engines that are putting out a big horsepower and most engines with forced induction.
I think of it this way: it get's as much attention as a 100k supercar but is as expensive to run as a daily hack (though my car has some big problems with it at the moment but let's no go there). Absolutely fantastic!

Previously I used 10/40 mineral oil but this time I put in the Halfords recommended semi synthetic of 10/30. I'd have to agree with those who have said use a thicker oil because the oil pressure is now very low at lower revs especially when it warms up. It now sits at 25psi at anything under 2000rpm where before it was typically at 40psi at idle and 50psi all other times. A waste of oil having to change it after 1000 miles but better to replace that than the engine.Jed
