No just bought a 2x converter today, but being able to play with the photos as soon as you get back is becoming too appealing!

Well you can get a 50D for less money so it doesn't look that appealing to me.

Exactly. Warehouseexpress are showing the 50D & Canon 18-200 EF-S IS for £1198 and the equivalent 500D kit for £200 more.

Sounds like a major own goal for Canon. Their marketing geniuses are clearly demonstrating they're inept enough to work for our government.

Idiots....

You'd assume that the 500D will end up at the price of the 450D it's replacing. I imagine that pre-order prices will be high to avoid massacre of the 450D sales.

20 fps; what the bloody hell were they thinking. It's got to be the most unusual and unusable frame-rate ever.

Of course it will, eventually. The 500D will be poised to put clear daylight between it and the 1000D (and possibly it's successor) which was always a little bit to close in specs & price to the 450D. It just might mean that it will sell at a higher price than the, sort of, equivalent 450D did so that they can keep the price points separate. I'd be surprised if it stuck at the £870 Body only price on Warehouse express site though! I'd expect something around £500-550 Body only if the 1000D stays around £300-320 mark

Where did you find that? All I see it capable of is "Frames per second 3.4"

3.4 fps for photos
20-30 fps for video (depending on quality)

The biggest improvement is the addition of video, probably just a reaction to Nikon at the same price point.

I think the 20fps refers to the video/movie mode??

Seems right - PAL is 25fps; NTSC 30 fps.

That's for 1900x1280 HD video, it gets better the moment you drop to 1280x768 (still HD). Not all that surprising really, if it did top-range HD at full frame rates, what would be the point of buying a 5D? This is meant to be an 'entry level' camera!

Not sure where the price £869 is coming from as the body only price in the US is $799, giving a much more reasonable £551 before vat. And thats RRP rather than street.

The US one isn't available till May, and I wonder if the same is true here, but a few have escaped into the wild and are keeping that high initial price.
