Just got a answer back from Bookatrack who say they have recently made a decision to ban single seaters. I don't yet have a race licience, and have considered buying a 89 Dallara f3 car but may have to give up on the idea if I can't find anywhere to run the thing!

so come on chaps help! where can I run it!

getting a licence isnt that hard you need

ards pack ~ 45 quid
medical ~ 60 quid
ards test ~160-320 quid
licence ~45 quid per year....

then you can take it anywhere and the bonus is you can also go racing

for gods sake man go racing!!!!!! its not that expensive, have a look here www.arpf3.co.uk
first of all get an MSA license and take your ARDS test. then contact all the racing circuits and find out when their test days are. these test days are similar to a track day but are for competitors who will be racing there in the coming weeks, but not limited to just those competitors. most run open wheel and saloon sessions.
you will find the difference in speed is less than on a regular track day and as far as i know, all drivers are compeitors, so the standard of driving MAY be higher than a regular track day. I cannot believe a trackday in a f3 car would be much fun as you will be held up alot by other cars through no ones fault. the f3 car will simply be much faster. you dont need to race to attend these test days and all circuits will hold them.
You could also investigate the possibilities of sprinting and hillclimbs or hire out a circuit yourself. castle combe is approx £2000 a day. a couple of friends or owners of similar cars in the same predicament and the cost is significantly reduced.

test days are a bit different to track days in that there are no rules!!!! overtake when and where you like chaps.... it can be a bit un nerving if you are in a slower car, but an f3 shouldnt be a slower car !!!!

You still have to possess a license to take part in test days.

For what it is worth I would get your ARDS test over and done with (the biggest doddle there ever was and you get to throw someone else's machinery around the track while you do it).

It's either that or join a specialist motoring club that has MSA affiliation as they can run their own track days.

Does anyone know how much faster is an F3 car when you remove that restrictive air intake?

The restrictor on the air intake does seem to make a huge difference to the power. The car I'm afetr knocks out 170 bhp from a 8 valve VW gti engine. but to do this there is little or no power until about 4.5k on the rev counter. This also has a high compresion head and special pistons to do this.
A normal 2ltr gti engine with a bit of a tweak will knock out about 140 without the air restrictor, so this gives you some idea of the loss. I believe the restrictor is 20 mil.

The other problem is the car is a complete package with spares for around 7K but would I be able to shift it in a couple of years time. Part of me says stuff the cost, I ought to get 5K for it at least and what a great couple of years in the mean time!

Anyone else out there running anything like this!

thanks for the encouragement Pablo, there's not a Montoya in that name anywhere is there?

have a look here too! www.monoposto.co.uk not sure if an F3 car is eligable for the Mono2000 class but
this sort of cars are always quite sought after for sprints and hillclimbs as well as racing as they are fairly robust cars. Your guess-timate of a resale value is probably a little below what you could get. most i have seen in autosport etc are around the £6k-8k mark though this depends on the complete package.
I cant see any reason why you would be unable to shift it in a few years time. infact, if you buy it and do need to sell it in a few years time can you contact me please i may even have some money by then!!

If you don't have a race licence you can hire the Silverstone Stowe Circuit on an hourly basis. It work's out quite expensive, but it's totally exclusive, so no other cars on circuit and very safe. Cost for the hour is £100, or with an instructor to help and advise £175. Call 01327 320412.
