Lets hope the FIA reports back that they a no longer holding the rally in Wales, it would certainly be a shot in the arm for Sensibility and a kick in the bollox for the SCP and government attitudes

I thought this would happen. Still, the Police obviously know how to best serve the community... as ever.

Seems like the Welsh may have shot themselves in the foot if it turns out they lose future Rally's,and the £15 Million revenue that goes with it!

I am currently boycotting Wales because of their excessive use of speed traps cameras etc.
I used to go surfing in Gower and Porthcawl most weekends. I go to Devon all the time now instead.

Serves Wales right if the rally moves to Scotland/North of England/Isle of Man etc.

Can I just point out the differentiation between the Welsh public and the Speed Camera Partnerships? I'm from South Wales (in fact one of the rally stages is just up the road from me). We're all just as incenced by the way they're scavenging money from the event as you are. I liked the wording of the FIA press release (the high number of drivers caught speeding clearly implies it is an unsafe place to hold a motorsport event), but it won't make a blind bit of difference at future Welsh rallies. If there are any.

The SCP's wouldn't care in the slightest if it packed off forever to England or Scotland. Well I guess they would in a way, it would mean less money for them. They're just making hay while the sun shines.

I just hope that the rally just moves somewhere else within this country rather than disappearing abroad.

It is me, or does it seem like this country is imploding in on itself? Sporting news tends to be positive. I remember the day Neil Hodgeson got the Superbike world championship. Was that in the news? Oh no, we only like to hear depressing cricket stories.

Don't be too keen on getting there too quickly!

The A361 IS Laser Trap Heaven, I'm a regular windsurfer at Saunton. last month I left the place Sun Eve.

1: Scamera at Braunton 30-40mph Zone
2: Scamera after Braunton on 50mph Dual Carriageway
3: Scamera on the A361 on the 4 mile straight

Safety cameras my ass

All within a 25min drive!

HA! Although having said that, i would rather we actualy had A rally than none at all....

Mind you, why is it set rigidly in Wales anyway - why can't we have an alternate location every so often..? Mind you i can never understand why the GP doesn't go to Brands Hatch every alternate year.

It would make for more excitement IMO

What more can be added...

I remember when there were no cameras around here...

This country is (to use a Clarksonism) "wearing margarine trousers on a well greased slide to oblivion"

I am waiting for the BRDC to bow to government pressure & install a zebra crossing & "traffic calming" on the Hangar straight, lest some zealot wish to act upon the voices in his head & walk onto the track next year....

Words fail me.

Another Welshman on the forum! I'm from North Wales originally though so I expect that doesn't count.

Personally I feel the FIA SHOULD take the rally away from Wales and move it to, say, the Isle Of Man. A stand needs to be taken against this sort of deliberate persecution. I feel the FIA has worded their reply perfectly. Wales is UNSAFE in which to hold a rally. There you go. Feck off the lot..etc etc

In the current political climate though it seems perfectly OK to say that the whole economy and even the country can go to hell in a handbasket as long as no-one speeds or is discriminated against for being thick as two short planks.

I blame the Government. Local Government and National. There are simply far too many tossers as part of it..and now they've got the technology to enforce their tosser attitudes on the rest of us they're going to do it come hell or high water.

Frankly I expect every right-thinking upstanding member of PH to stand as an MP or local councillor at the next available election as a member of the "Common Fecking Sense" party to try and redress the balance....

Sorry about that small explosion. I'll be OK in the morning.....

Well said Sir!

may I add one thing, and that every member of PH who can't or doesn't want to stand for the Common Fecking Sense Party [1] should apply to become a magistrate.

Let's sort it out from the inside!

[1] I really do like that party name, where do I sign up to join?

I don't know what is going on in this country....just read on Auotsport's web site that Wales now is considered to have the harshest policeing of all the WRC events.....those PHers who live in Wales, now is the time to act!!before the event is lost for ever.

While I live in England I'm not as harsh to say it should just come to here. What I can never work out is that it is meant to be the Rally GREAT BRITAIN, but it only goes to Wales... Eh?

In years gone by it would take in all three countries on the UK Mainland. Teams and drivers would be worried about goign into Keilder and Grizdale forrest stages as they were car killers. Not any more. And I know people thought that Clumber Park and Donington Stages were Mickey Mouse, but they were a damn site closer for me to get to than driving down to south wales! (And with less speed cameras by the sound of it!)

Rally of Great Britain? Nope.

Welsh Assembly Website said:
The final leg of the championship is to remain in Wales for the next four years and has been completely rebranded as the Wales Rally GB in a major marketing coup for Wales.
The economic benefit generated directly by our mobile speed cameras alone has been conservatively estimated in excess of £50million.

W*nkers. I have nothing against some of the stages being staged in Wales, but surely the current format is just the Welsh Rally, only the marketing boys have bothered to keep the GB bit in.
