Your best TVR road trip?
Discussion
What's your most memorable drive in a TVR? It doesn't have to be epic, just one you fondly remember?
For me three stand out. Collecting the car from Humberside (a long way away) one cold February day, Thunder In The Tunnels last year and the recent road trip to Wales:

I know some people have done some really serious distances in them across some very interesting roads - must be a few stories out there?

My first drive in my seac when fetching her back from Henley- in- Arden via Warwick along the A445 ,which I know well , back through lots of nice villages to Lutterworth , scary car to drive first time , the clutch is a begger but I had fun spinning the back wheels by mistake several times !
I took a trip to Germany in the summer of 2007. We did the obligatory lap of the 'Ring, continued down to Karlsruhe to see some mates and drove all the way back again. Roof off, of course!

Last year I did my first Le Mans trip with the North East TVRCC. Here we are on the way home waiting to get the ferry back from Boulogne.

Hi Chris
Oh some classics!
Spain in the wedge with the Roving TVR's north to south, trackday and back again!
Two Wales trips, one in the Wedge (about 12 cars) and one in the Tam (20 cars!)
Two trips to Le Mans
One trip to Classic Le Man with a week in Congac after with a few TiV friends!
Love it!

Late Aug 08 Flew up to Aberdeen to buy my first TVR, the seller took me for a test drive, (custers last stand)
, had a quick go & then exchanged cash for car.
Drove in to Edinburgh at rush hour
got spotted by an enthusiast with a camera 10 min after buying car, stayed the night, drove to lake windermere, lovely winding road in beside the lake, had a guy knock on the window & say hello he had a blue grifith & a swedish tourist ask me bundles of questions about the car & had me pose for a pictuer with it. Drove home to sunny south london the next day.
To top the weekend off, found my pic in 'scotlands finest spotted' on here that made me smile
The misses' weekend was made when we bumpted into Ant & Dec as the Endinburgh Festival.... typical!

This could be a BIG thread because sometimes the unexpected perfect opportunity just happens and if you're driving in the realisation of your dreams it gets magnified.
For me the first was taking a detour over St Gotthard rather than through the congested tunnel, fabulous drive with my son videoing the last 5 minutes to the summit.
Next was driving home from that holiday when I did well over a thousand miles in a day but there was no congestion and it seemed like everything just got out of the way to allow very quick progress.
Next and weirdly was one of those unexpected trips, coming back from Southend to home (Stansted) roof off, turned into a route via Ipswich, Bury and Newmarket- can't explain why but it just seemed the thing to do.

south wales to classic le mans, then down to millau ( bridge early morning ...fab )
on to cannes, then down to pienza in tuscany, back up to stresa on lake maggiore, through mt blanc tunnel, macon , tours, caen then home.
17 days, of sheer pleasure.
3,700 miles.
1/2 pint of oil
petrol at its peak in price ( painful...italy was 1.62 euro/litre ouch )
4.0 chimaera roof down...... through the alps ...that will live in my memory forever.
roll on 2010 classic.

The original Blackpool Rally back in Nov 2006,
That was a memorable day for lots of reasons. The memory of the staff standing in the road outside the factory to applaud US when we had come to applaud them still sends a shiver up the spine. And just the sight of all those TVR's lined up on the front....
Have had 2 great trips to France, one in the Tuscan 2 chateau hopping around the Loire Valley and Normandy and the other in the Sag last year to classic Le Mans. Great memories and a reminder that I am going to miss my Tiv badly.

Thanks for that. B@stards.

To be honest everytime I take the Sagaris anywhere its a memorable drive out.
Was at a few good meetings last year with NE England, Tees, Cumbria and Yorks bunches
And once to my home in France
Just had the Sag out now in the sunshine just round the roads of Northumberland - fantastic

How long have you got???
Dickies Welsh trips were great fun.
London to Chamonix, then through Switzerland to the Italian Lakes for a couple of days before heading back to Chamonix was a wonderful experience.
Le Mans 05, absolute mayhem with about 25 local cars. The following year we went part of the way with the group, stayed overnight then had an amazing drive home through France...just because we fancied a drive with our mates
Classic Le Mans...the expectation was incredible & the event was one of the best things Ive ever done....the massif crash on the way there & killing my lovely Griff wasnt part of the plan, but the way everyone looked after us & helped us to enjoy the rest of our holiday (in Cognac) still brings a lump to my throat & reminds me what a special group of friends we have.

Furball 5000 Alpine tour in 2006.
Was that with the 350i FHC that was in the classifieds a while back? You have no idea how many times I looked at that car and reminded myself I didn't have space for another one.
Next big trip for me is hopefully Le Mans, but I'm having trouble persuading my boss that the S is sensible transport for business. Otherwise it's Queasy Jet.

I've done some nice miles around Europe almost entirely on "B" roads. However the best single drive started one morning in Chamonix (French Alps) and suggesting to the Mrs we "get a proper coffee". Three hours, one fill up, 2 countries and 4 mountain passes later we were in Italy. We had a coffee.....and then drove back.

Wehey. Thanks for the mention Chris. That was a cracking day for it too.
