New battery - air con + electric windows

Hi all!

New on this MB forum, but I need some help... Changed my 100AH battery in my 98' C240T which has given up after 11 years of faultless service despite the car living outside in all temperatures and weather (dates from 09/98 so the stamp says on the battery).

Two issues:
1. My electric side windows don't work normally (goes up and down but have to "tickle" the switch to get it working. Tried the instructions in the manual not much better eitherh.
2. The automatic air con seems to have packed up also(no cool air despite very warm temperatures here in Switzerland during the weekend). Checked the fuses but seems all OK. Had the circuit serviced in May last year and never had any other problems either.

Any tips to sort this (these) two problems??

hi,

with regards to the windows, im guessing that the one touch up and down operation is not working and you have to half press(?) the switch to get them up or down.

to reset the switches so that they work as normal, make sure the windows are fully closed and then half press the switch upwards - as if closing the window and you should hear a small click from the swicth. then fully press the swtich to open the window. it should work as normal. repeat for the rest of the windows.

about the A/C im not too sure what the issue with that could be.

Yes, for the windows its like you explain it. Will try this evening when I get home. For the aircon, still listening for possible solution before taking it to the local garage.....

Tried your solution and it works fine. Many thanks for the tip. However, have not heard anything further regarding the aircon, sooooo will have to check out with the local MB garage.

Just heard from the local MB garage. The aircon system is empty, the compressor is dead and has to be replaced together with a faulty pipe. Just heard the estimate for the repairs..... CHF 2600 or approx £1500 at current exchange rates

i have a m/b 2.5 turbo diesel c class... im having problems with the windows, they stop working and the only way to get them back again is to dis connect the battery and reconnect after a while, they start working again then stop again... any suggestions on what i could do to sort the problem out?

Had the air con system repaired (new compressor, some pipes, joints, etc.). Picked up the car last Thursday, nice and cool Friday. Come Saturday morning I found the air was less cool and since Sunday, no more cold air at all just a warm blast Have to take the car back next week to be checked our again and find out the new or old leak(s)

Bugger! Thats a bit of a shame about the A/C...

Im assuming that there is some sort of (fairly) easy leak test that can be performed on the A/C system?

Yes they put a dye with the gas and leaks can apparently be seen with a special light (ultraviolet?). Must not have looked very closely or the person doing the checking needs new glasses

i had problems with my air conditioning, i found the pollen filter and changed it, since then its been great. servicing didnt even bring up the pollen filter.

Now that could be a good and useful tip. Will certainly suggest the idea next week when I get the car to the MB dealer. I must admit that I've never seen this specific "object" on any servicing bills. The only filter billed has been the oil and petrol filters (air filter is a specific K&N which I clean myself).

Rad has a leak and needs replacing. So not pollen filter, but have told them to change in any case. Waiting end of the week to get the car back.
