I was looking through the TVR insruance Wiki the toher day ant noticed that a lot of the insureres on the list specifically banned superchargers...

Why is this?

They dont ban turbos, so whats so special about SC that they wont insure?

It's only one underwriter, which happens to be used by a few companies. A Manning and Hagerty both told me that it is annoying them as they're having to turn down policies and they are working on turning it around which may happen in the next 6 months or so. For now though I've gone with MSM and found them to be very helpful so far. Bloody good price too!

Any mention of forced induction or NOx tends to send insurers running for cover, you can still get insurance but the number of people willing to quote is much smaller and it costs more.

I've had a Supercharged TVR for 20 years - with an engineers report you should be fine - it's been with at least five insurers. Try Classicline - they'll sort you out

I spoke to Paul at Manning's on friday and the man says "yes" to mine smile so maybe they have now sorted the problem.

Maybe this is this is the case, I hope it is as the guy was very appologetic when I rang a month or two ago. Then again it may be because I am 23 and he was fobbing me off? Will have to ring back and ask out of curiosity. please update the TVR insurance Wiki though as that sounds like useful info thumbup

Edit: You've already done it... Good form!

Adrian flux have a specialist vehicles department, they insure anything. You will need to fill out a form stating exactly what you have changed on the car and they will do an individual policy for you, they have never needed an engineers inspection so far but they do require very full information and full disclosure. I have some very silly cars insured for the road with them, a supercharged Cerbera would be sane in comparison. Prices are competitive too. For a race prepared Maestro death machine with over 450BHP I pay £400/year, for a turbocharged Vauxhall magnum with £350BHP £194.00/year and an Omega with a turbocharged AJP (not finished but insured) £360/year. The Omega is on agreed valuation at £15,000, which reminds me I must look at that before it goes on the road as it's cost me a lot more than that! All are on limited mileage policies at 5000 per year but that can also be negotiated based on requirements. My Cerbera is with Pegasus on the company fleet policy, not sure they would be happy with a supercharger bolted onto it though!

Flux seem to be a bit of a mixed bag. The quote they gave me for my Griff was £6k yikes

Yours was built that way though, wasn't it?

Adding a S/C is a pretty significant modification.

This is annoying me too BTW - I'd quite like to get my Chimaera supercharged ;-)

I've just worked out what SX means in wedge-speak! Never knew they existed...

When I spoke to Sunninghill (Jelf Group plc) (See Wiki) on friday they said no problem to SC, and that was without knowing any of my info. He did say that it was new territory for insurers and they are having to pluck a figure out of the sky for insurance premiums (So haggle wink)

Yeah I've found this too. £3500 when several main stream insurers were just under that, and the one I went with was half the price.

The postscript to this is that Hagerty then quoted me £380!
