Apologies for my partner..

The missus came home on Friday night from work, gleefully telling me how she'd spanked 2 cars (TVRs she thinks) on the A361 from Banbury/M40 to Staverton (where we live) both cars had Pistonheads stickers on the back.
I gather the drivers didn't appear too impressed by the sight of a blonde sailing a S600 limo past them, despite their best attempts to get away with some daring overtaking manouvres. I hope it didn't cause too much embarrassment.
I think I'll be sending her to work in the Land Rover from now on !

I was travelling along the A361 on Friday afternoon at about 3:30-4pm. I came to the part where there's a reasonably steep hill with cross hatching in the middle.
I was behind some reasonably slow cars. I checked my mirrors - all clear. I pulled out to confirm the road was clear then I accelerated past one car and stayed out to assess the liklihood of getting past the other two.
I decided that it wasn't worth it as the crest of the hill was too close and that was coupled with a left hand bend.
So, I drifted back in. As I did so I glanced in my mirrors again to find a Merc descending on me at about 90mph. When I say descending on me, I don't mean they were hovering behind me - they were about to hit me. I had to jink sharply to the left to avoid the car hitting my offside wing as there wasn't enough road for them to get past.
The car then flew past the other two cars over the summit and into a left hand bend.
You're absolutely right. I wasn't impressed with the driving or the 'daring overtaking manouvre' which in my opinion was plain dangerous.
I made no daring overtaking manouvres myself nor did I attempt to catch up with the car (I did so eventually as the road was clear). When I encounted a car driven like that I prefer to remain at a distance.
If that was your wife (turned into a drive in Staverton village) then may I suggest you send her on a www.ridedrive.co.uk course? The driver of the car that overtook me was driving dangerously.
I have nothing to prove. I have a ten old TVR with 104,000 miles on the clock that enjoys being pedalled along at ~70mph. V12 Mercedes saloons are quicker than my car and cost 20 times as much. Why do people think I would care about being overtaken? What angered me was the style of driving - it's episodes like that that just give ammunition to the speed kills brigade.
Perhaps your wife ought to come on here and explain why she feels the need to behave like a mental wit with a death wish - I think Ted probably gives the accurate version of events -
a lot of us drove that road on the way to/from BTaP - it is not the kind of road for larging it in a 2-ton car (speaking as the owner of a large, 2-ton Audi), but obviously your wife knows the road, knows there are no speed cameras etc. ...shame she doesn't know how to consider other road users' safety.

I guess it's all down to personal perspective and opinion. The missus doesn't consider any of her driving as "dangerous", yet she says she saw some "daring attempts" made by others. Go figure... I'm not going to defend either party, as I wasn't there. Nobody is saying you (Ted) should care about being overtaken, after all it might not have been you, but she said that whoever she overtook certainly made some daring manoeuvers to try and catch up.
Were you there when it happened Nubbin ? By the way you talk, it sounds like you were. But yes, she does know the road like the back of her hand (and there is a speed camera in Byfield)
An S600 costs 20x as much as a TVR ? Unlikely.
(ps. the Merc is only worth £30K, tops)

Doesn't look like there's much point debating the matter as she and I were the only ones there and seem to have very different perspectives on the matter.
I'm sure the other 2 cars that you decided not to pass may also have their ideas
I'm sure it's a bad idea to drive like an @rse so close to your own home anyway
With all the road rage about who knows who might follow you home
Come on guys, you don't even know if it was GT2Man's missus - could be guilty by association only as although PT witnessed a Merc, unless licence plates are traded, you can't be sure who it was....
Lets not spoil your BTap Page huh?? I am enjoyuing reading of the weekends exploits because i could not go, i don't want to read holier than thou answers about someones driving from people who weren't there...

Agreed.. fortunately, being insulted by Mungo, is like being attacked by a wet lettuce.
The thread was only intended as a lighthearted tongue-poke
