My 9 year old has a very enquiring mind. He loves to know how things work and tells me he is going to grow up to be an inventor.

Are there any clubs or associations that he coudl join in order to read a bit more about the topic.

No way are we going to push him into anything, just something that he can flirt with to see if it floats his boat.

Try the NAGC - the National Association of Gifted Children.

I used to go to their regular clubs when I was a nipper. All kinds of activities - making stuff etc.

I think you might be getting confused.

We programmed early computers, made electronic gadgets and designed stuff.

I don't recall eating any crayons...

Yeah, clearly an organisation that gives kids the opportunity to stretch themselves and spend time creating stuff with scientists, engineers and designers is a waste of time....

howstuffworks.com is good a bit out of date.

Philipe Starck desgin book is good.

How about getting some good design books on concept cars and easy things and build his knowledge.

He really wants to sim to do a Design and Tech course later on and these are good building blocks.

So did I! (ended up doing a design degree and have a few patents to my name). Easily the best thing I could suggest for him is lot and lots (and lots) of Lego. Technik, Mindstorms, the works...

The Patent office is 5 minutes walk from my house. They might be able to point you in the right direction.
