The latest batch of new TVRs
Discussion
I spoke to Chris at Racing Green this morning about the latest batch of new, part finished TVRs in storage at the Multipart warehouse near Coventry. The following thread refers: http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...
Apparently there are 13 Tuscan Targas and Covertibles, three of which have already been sold, and just one Sagaris, which evidently does not include the Chameleon Green Sagaris in the photos featured in the above thread. They will be built on a bespoke order basis, sprayed in any colour you like, excluding those already painted of course, trimmed to customer's requirements, and will be available with a standard Speed Six engine or, for a premium of around £3K, with Racing Green's own FFF engine. Prices will be in the region of £50-55K according to final spec.

Yup, was offered a new Tuscan built to 'my' spec - from £48k with a standard engine, £55k with the FFF and £60k with the SC
Just a tad too rich for me, but got an exceptionally nice last-version Mk2 S.
One question that entered my head is - are they really still TVR's or just a 'kit' that happens to be made from TVR bits? For example, would you have to say, when you come to sell one, that they weren't actually built by TVR but assembled by Racing Green??

Probably a "Good Thing".............LOLWho is going to buy these cars? A Tuscan from £48,000.00, thousands more for an unproven engine?
One dealer has a "2008" 57 Tuscan with 1,700 miles at under £40,000.00. Another has a "2009" 58 Tamora with 1 mile on the clock at under £30,000.00. Neither seem to be sold.
Given the frequency that TVR owners seem to contact scrap-yards looking for otherwise unavailable parts, where are the parts coming from to build these cars and where are the spare parts after that coming from?
Who is providing the warranty? I mean the type you get with a new car that covers everything?
What about the low volume approval for this car? Do they have it? If so, from whom?

Who will buy them is not really your concern is it? All the previously unfinished 2006 cars from the factory that were finished off and released for sale slipped out into the market mostly unnoticed.
New cars have a certain cachet and will be sold I'm sure. Multipart have access to parts due to the nature of their deal with TVR and I assume will make parts available for the build.
Racing Green will probably buy warranty protection and offer it to buyers and similarily will trailor these cars off to their local SVA testing station for, something that I believe TVR themselves did.

My information is that there are more parts, with more choice of suppliers, to many more specifications out there now than there ever was when TVR were in existance, and that's both pre and post NS' take-over. There is a problem with replacement parts for the instrument binnacle but I have been told that repairs are available and are ridiculously cheap.Availability of spares was never a strong selling point with regards to TVR. It seems odd that since its disappearance, one major problem has apparently been overcome.

I assume SC means supercharger. Tell me more! What kind of power/torque? Reliable? What's the under bonnet temp like?Just a tad too rich for me, but got an exceptionally nice last-version Mk2 S.

Christ, do you own a Tuscan? as your handle suggests ,if so i would sell it in case you have to put some air in the tyres and think you might need a rebuild.

Apparently he had a bad experience with a Tuscan, which has embittered him towards the marque. Whereas the rest of us would simply have got over it and moved on, for some inexplicable reason he continues to lurk on the forum ready to pounce on any thread that might offer him an opportunity to spout his bile. In a perverse sort of way, I actually feel a bit sorry for the sad git.

Yep, I take your point. 'Can I tell you where I am?' Never mind Dragon's Den, the whole thing's a bloody den of iniquity.

Hi Phil, there was a long running thread on here back in Aug/Sept? about orders being taken for new Tiv's, delivery was anticipated to be Q1/Q2 2009, which also coincided with RG's new FFF SP6, think it can only be good news for customers to have a choice of engines to dispel with the 'perceived' SP6 reliability issues, drove the RG FFF recently and it certainly spins up quicker to 7k has a distinctive sound and looks like a work of art, I would have it in a new Tiv for 3k but seems a tad expensive as a retro fit.
The cars in the pics only arrived this month, good to see something happening behind the scene's at last, now where's my old brownie......

There has been a few negative points raised on this subject but I have to say I agree with the above comment the most. If someone is going lash out 50k on a brand new TVR and when he or she tries to sell ends up listing it in kit cars monthly for a fraction of the price, its not a great cash decision. Granted you don't buy a TVR for great investment but being built several years after the factory closed is always going to raise questions. For the record I'm not suggesting RC will do anything other than a great job.Personally I think that's irrelevant. They were started by TVR, will have TVR chassis numbers and be built with the same parts. No one has questioned the provenance of the other batch of '07 and '08 cars that have been sold and the majority of them have been finished off since the factory closed.
