Trailing Arm Stripdown - a Tip
Discussion
Spent part of the day breaking diff mounting bolts bu
er than moved on to stripping the trailing arms.
Followed Andrews helpful article from Sprint and all went well (undid the 41mm hub nuts the other day) and then....
Came to release the handbrake cable from the first back plate. Andrew said "Then take the handbrake cable out of the backplate. Be very careful not to break the locating pins..." Ha easier said than done. A hour and a half later finally got the little bl
er out. Pushing in the three arms of the clip and pushing the whole thing out was difficult. As you push in one arm the other springs out and working standing on my head isnt easy at the best of times.
Came to the second backplate and sat back and had a think -
slid a small jubilee clip over the handbrake cable from the brakeshoe end. Located it over the clip with three arms - gently did it up a bit so it pulled all three arms in at the same time - gentle tap with the trusty hammer and out it popped in seconds. Then did a little war dance

Hi Mark the part number would be very useful (especially in that I diddnt see how they could split)
Having said I'd look it up I haven't kept the receipt b
r for this as it was so insignificant and the paper mountain of receipts is so huge - sorry. But if you get the local ford dealer to bring up the sierra non abs braking microfiche diagram you will find it on there. It is called something totally unrelated to the role it performs though but the picture makes it easy to identify from location in the braking system but the picture of the part doesn't look like the part. Fortunately my ford dealers are really quite helpful. The clip is actually a cone with one side split just enough to get it over the cable. You then push it down the cable and it clicks into place from the inside of the drum rather than pulling through to the outside as your removal method would appear to indicate
Again sorry about the part number
Mark
