Chocolate doesnt make people fat. Eating too much chocolate makes people fat, and taxing chocolate is NOT going to stop fatties eating it!

Why do they not tax butter, cheese, haribo, crisps, macdonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut etc.

Heard this on the radio this morning, utter tosh.

You've said pretty much what my thoughts are, if they tax chocolate then they have to tax everything that is remotely fattening, ie most foods.

Because it would drive the dairy industry underground.

Isn't that always the reason they give for not wanting to ban drinking or smoking?

taxing fast food is a very good idea.

They are the biggest contributors to obesity, which in turn costs the NHS (so us) more than smoking and drinking related illness.

Only problem is that in reality it would just be another cynical tax by the government
My vote goes for taxing shampoo and conditioner.

What do you think Steve?

it's because they are losing so much money on taxes from smoking.
Increasing the tax on fuel during is a big no-no

There isn't much else left to tax, so after chocolate and sweets wil be . . . air !

It's only a teensy weensy point, as I agree that the tax-everything mentality is especially prevalent in this government and for various reasons I hate them from the very depths of my soul.

However, credit where credit is due - it's a Scottish GP that's pushing this. Nothing to do with the government. Yet, anyway wink

Good idea !

As taxing alcohol and tobacco stopped people drinking and smoking it should work a treat.

Maybe they could just make it illegal like drugs ? Actually that didn't work either.

Maybe it will make some money for the Government coffers. Thats it then lets tax it then !!

Just packed full of sugar, and we all know that is good for you?

I do disagree whole heartedly with the nanny britain stance on taxing things which when used in excess cause problems.

As someone has said, why not give tax breaks to those of us who activley seek exercise?

at least 75% would be reasonable smile
In fact all hair products should be taxed instantly to the tune of many hundreds of pounds.

Apart from hair clippers and thermal wooly hats, they should be free.

They won't tax Chocolate.

50% of the population wouldn't notice. The other 50% would go ballistic. Half the voters is quite a lot... wink
