Okay, so the Z4M reccomends 10W-60 Castrol motorsport, but i cant find it locally for love nor money..

the closest i could get was Mobil 1 15W-50... would this do?

I just want some oil to top up till its next service (in about 1k)

You can get it here:
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-662-10w-60.aspx

or by the litre from your dealer.

And you want the one for M engine, rather than the standard one.

Although there's only a tiny difference in specification and probably down to the extended service intervals - although I still do my oil every 6,000 miles.

The M-supplement actually says you can top up with 10w40 or 10w30 if you need to, but not to do a full oil change with either of those.

The larger branches of Halfords also stock it - if there's one local you can reserve it via their website (which I think gets you a slightly lower price) and then collect to avoid delivery costs!

Castrol Edge 10W60 is the current TWS. You can still get TWS from dealers though a I have a litre in the boot. Do not get Castrol Edge Sport as that's the old Castrol RS which whilst it's 10W60 fully synthetic, is NOT "M" approved.

Opie oils has a buy one get 25% free offer on at the moment. You'll need 5.5litres for an M3 oil change.

Selenia also make it - the Alfa GTAs also use it, so you could try an Alfa dealer if you're stuck.

Yep - I think it's called "Selenia Racing". You can also get it from Fiat dealers I think.

Sorry but Selenia 10w60 is NOT comparable to Castrol Edge and is NOT suitable for an M engine (nor for any racing engine)! The viscosity is the same and there it ends (look at the codes on the packaging and ask any expert). It's crap with a 'racing' badge!

I have used Castrol racing oils (RS then TWS then Edge) for over a decade. Some years ago we were supplied Selenia 10W60 for the Alfa 147 GTA Cup as they were series sponsor. After two races Alfa recommended to change to Castrol. Never had an oil related engine problem since. Castrol can be ordered or bought at any well stocked specialist, online site or BMW dealer.
