This summer will be my final summer holiday before I graduate next year. Unfortunately my money situation isn't looking too bright right now so I'm going to have to get a job to get me through my final year without entering my overdraft. I didn't apply for any summer placements because I decided to concentrate on revision for my exams instead - however, this has left me with fewer options on what to do this summer and I don't particularly fancy my local supermarket although that is an option - therefore, I'm putting it to PH - what jobs could I do this summer - aim is maximum income and obviously something enjoyable is better but I'm prepared to put up with something slightly boring if it pays well!!
I will have accomodation in Bude, Cornwall, and Bath and am prepared to work within commuting distance of either, anywhere else, the income will have to be offset against the extra rental costs which probably won't make it worthwhile although I have relatives in London and Cambridge so they're both options too.....
Mods, if you wouldn't mind leaving this here to get a bigger audience I'd appreciate it
, thanks.

Marquee Erecting, I did it for 4 seasons whilst at Uni.
Get your name down now with a local company - badger them until they say yes, go and see them when you can and ask face to face whilst sticking your contact details/CV down their throat - if it saves them advertising they'd be interested.
80 hour weeks, hard work, outside in the sun most of the day, keep reasonably fit and a good laugh - plus they only want you for the holidays. Pays very well too (if you do the hours!).

Stay in Bath and get a job working with the animals at Longleat, I almost guarantee it'll be one of the best jobs you ever have!
I worked in zoos in the holidays whilst at uni, carried on zoo/legal careers side by side for a while, realised I couldn't stand the legal nonsense, and have been working with animals ever since. Those summer jobs changed my life!

Eurocamp.
Start off the season with montage (putting tents up). Then work the season as a camp-site courier. Then finish the season with de montage (taking tents down).
Mainly in France but they are all over Europe now. You get paid, accommodation is provided, fed & watered & tips.

Agriculture has been pretty good for me in the past.
Took home £6k in 11 weeks one summer. Standard rate was £5.68 I think, with overtime of around £8.
It helps if you're handy with a spanner or welder, and know one end of a grease gun from the other.
Might be hard to convince someone to take a punt on you if you've no experience though.

When my sons were at University in the summer holidays they used to work for one of the local market gardeners cutting and picking vegetables and salad crops.
They had a choice of either fixed day work rates of pay or piecework.
Both worked piecework and used to earn a lot of money for their next term, and used to have a good tan from working in the sun as well.

What degree are you doing? Obviously its advisable to look at somewhere relevant if your it compliments your degree... look at the smaller companies as they are usually more amenable for students.
Mechanical Engineering - although pretty much decided I don't really want to do that for a career.....Gassing Station | The Pie & Piston Archive | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
