Just watched the rally GB report

Front NS wheel hanging off Gronholms car and he says to the chief inspector "Its ok I can drive it. It will be all right"!

Better luck next year Marcus

In fairness to him, he had driven a hefty proportion of the stage with the wheel hanging off like that.

I dont see why he couldnt be allowed to drive on the road, bloody jumped up bib, do they not realise how much income the rally brings into Wales.

I am sure if anybody could manage to drive a car with 3 wheels then it would be a rally driver.

They did it to Sainz a couple of years ago too.

To be fair, cars must be road legal. You try driving with a wheel hanging of an see how far you get before being pull off the road.

I felt really sorry for him....he didn't deserve that.

Watched the scene on telly earlier...and just really felt for him.

Sorry just don't agree with those of you who say Marcus should have been allowed to continue.

Maybe he could have controlled it but what sort of message does that send out? Not only the image of the event and rallying would be seen as cowboys, but regarding general standards on acceptable behaviour.

Some people look on these top drivers as role models.

The cop was spot on. Of course the TV only showed you what they wanted you to see. Don't forget that please.

Reminds me again of the Ford crew parked outside Harrogate Police station where we had one of the French drivers held (auriol I think) who'd been arrested for dangerous driving (overtaking round blind bends between harrogate and Ripon)

End of Rally Ford!

yup, cop was in the right, and I think it was a mis-communication that was happening - Gronholm was trying to say "I'm not going to drive it, but I know I could, it would be fine", the copper was on TV...

Still, shame.

Remember Tommi those few years back, after he'd gone off on the Hillman Imps oil? He'd managed a good few miles on three wheels before the motorbike cop stopped him. They interviewed the PC, asked him if he'd had trouble stopping him. He replied he'd had trouble catching him. Apparently he'd been doing as much as ton, at times. On three wheels. On the public highway

Technically correct FiF, but in which of the other 15 countries holding World Rallies would this have happened? More pragmatic coppers in other countries might have escorted him to service at a reasonable speed with blues & two's. In San Remo and Mexico, they would have given him the "hurry-up" signal.

Why can't they stick the car on a transporter and take it to the next stage?
