Gentlemen,

I propose that we petition the Government to nominate one day a week as national track day. This day will be a Numpty free zone, a Biddy ban will be enforced, and drivers who take the control task of driving seriously will be able to use the roads to there full potential. No car with less than 200 horses will be allowed out and speed limits will be adjusted accordingly, ie. Waived.

We all have to endure the Numpy and Biddy enforced crawl around Britains roads but would we not be more even tempered and therefore safer six days a week if at least one day per week we could get to work in the twenty minutes actually required by the distance involved rather than the two hours required by flat cap wearing, pipe smoking (and pointing), bearded, sandle wearing, nut eating, tree hugging DRUIDS and worse still, YOUNG MUMS!!!! You know the feeling, you trapped behind these brain doners and you can hear them saying "Ooh, I can´t see at night, isn´t it terrible. Anyway thirty seven miles per hour is perfectly sufficient, you don´t want to be tearing around at break-neck speed do you - Ooh, look at that idiot, he won´t get there any faster you know - Ooh, I´m still in second gear…."

I must go now, I´m having another episode. Your comments please gents.

Lord Elpus.

That's a bit BHP'ist - no less than 200 horses!!! - What about my S3 (168 BHP) don't us 'S' owners and others with limited BHP get to come and play as well?

Cracking idea though, you could also make it a requirement to lay down as much rubber as you wanted pulling away from traffic lights....

OK. here are some more suggested rules: On racetracks, everyone drives in the same direction, which is much safer at the speeds we anticipate.

Therefore, all even numbered roads (eg. M6, A40, B3542) will be one way going away from Birmingham and all odd numbered roads (eg. M1, A61, B121) will be one way going towards Birmingham (Birmingham chosen purely arbitrarially - I'm sure someone will come up with a better choice).

Another thought... cars or drivers incapable of hitting at least one lateral G on corners are banned.

Short track No.1

Try London M4 to Bristol, turn right M5 to Birminham, then M42 to Nottingham, up M1 to Leeds, across M62, turn left down M6 to Birmingham, then M1 to London again.

The route will include some good blasts and also some scenic bits like across the pennines.

I would suggest 6hrs as a starting point for lap times.

Anyone done any better?

Not a bad Idea, although it seems to require a little more finesse. What I would like to go to the Govenment with is a proposal for regional test tracks to be set up, to allow people to drive as they would wish without the danger of uninvolved people being put at risk. These test tracks would have to be open to all, and not be under the contol of motor clubs and therefore not require the user to be a national B licence holder, as this route is already availible and after 25years of holding my driving licence I still haven't got round to doing it. I Haven't worked out the details at all and this plan can probably be picked to peices, please try. Simon.

Simon,
My apologies if I'm missing a subtle point, but...
Are not "Track Days" what you are describing? See separate Pistonheads forum if in doubt!

As an aside, I'm sure if Track Days became more popular, we would ALL drive better on the roads, and would get less frustrated behind the occasional numpty.
Could probably be combined with the Advanced Driving that the govt CLAIM to be keen on, but make no effort to promote.

Matt
p.s. Top thread idea - maybe once-a-month would be more practical?

duh, as below, there are about 25 open track day sessions in just this month. You dont need a racing licence to drive round a track???? Not 100% sure where you are coming from with this one.....
