Ho all.

I'm looking to buy my first ever flash gun, it's to be used for our 350D.

Something with an adjustable head, nice & easy to use, not too expensive either.

Anybody got any suggestions please?

The two main Canon flashguns are the 430EX II and the 580EX II that cost about £180 and £350 respectively. You'll need the 580 if you want a 360 degree rotatable head. A couple of other differences are that the 580 is more powerful and that it can be used as a wireless master whereas the 430 can only be used as a slave. Sigma and Metz also make flashguns that work with ETTL (the automatic flash metering system on the camera). Alternatively, look at older Canon flashes on the used market; it needs to be one suffixed with "EX" for it to work with ETTL.

You can get a basic flash for a much older camera for about £80... but whats the point.. ETTL is fantastic...

Are you sure about that? My 430II will rotate all the way round allowing bounce in any direction...

I have a 430EX II and it only rotates 270 degrees. It doesn't point in the directions between 3 o'clock and 6 o'clock. Maybe they changed the design during production?

Get a Cobra for 10 quid, you will learn so much and it has a bounce head. Its manual but they have guides on the back that make it a snap

the 270 degrees is bloody frustrating. On the left set up flash its perfect but if your flash is on the right of camera it forces it more as a wide out flash (if using st-e2) or a background flash.
