Hi guys: Washed the GTR yesterday which I usualy do with a bucket and lots of clean rags, no hose. Anyway, yesterday it was really dirty so I washed with a hose. This morning I drove about 6 miles to a gas station put in some fuel went about another 10 miles car started running very poorly. Pulled over ran all the diagnostics on the Motec and all was O.K. Started it back up ran light poo for a bit then went great for another 10 miles then again poorly the last 2 miles back to the house. We are convinced it has some water in the fuel, could be from the station or perhaps the wash job. Has anyone ever had problems with water getting by the fuel cap into the tank? Thank for any input. I wash mine reguarly with a hose and drive in all conditions, I doubt it's water in the fuel as the caps seal very well.
I'd be more inclined to say you've got water in the electrics.
What can happen is the three top vents (x2 either side of the main vent) drop water straight down onto the plugs. Pull the plug leads out and see if you've got water in there (you won't see the water as it sits inside the plug recesses on the block), it sometimes shorts and causes misfires/rough running.

Have your tanks been standing with low fuel Lee, and maybe subject to rapid change in temp/humidity? (vented alloy petrol tanks are great at producing moisture..cue light A/C systems)

any evidence of H2o will be in your filters i would check them first. I ran my car with contaminated fuel and the filters got blocked with silt and that also showed water droplets. My supposed mates with me just shot of and left me to sort it out myself...... you know who you arebiggrin

The filler caps are adjustable to make them watertight.If you take one off you will see a nut at the bottom.Tightening this increases the cam's pressure on the O ring when you close the lid . I adjusted mine untill it was very tight to close.Before this water could get in as on a horizotal surface!

Frank: Thanks thats a good peice of advice. Also will look at the filters and yes we have had a lot of rain by Southren Calif standards as of late, which is usually followed by temps in the high 70s. Lee

It's a chance in a million but;
Had a performance car here once with water in dizzy when rained or got COLD . Owner left it here and said to scrap it if I couldnt solve!Poured dyed water over dizzy with engine running and it stalled in 15 secs.Removed dizzy cap . NO dyed water inside but clear water . I traced it to a blocked breather pipe full of earth from an off 2 years earlier.Water vapour was coming up the dizzy drive but curiously no oil . Instantly cured after 2 years ! I think you would have to have an awfull lot of water in the tank to get into carb unless you've been regularly topping up with loose fillers.
