I'm no photography expert but i'm always amazed at the pics in National Geographic magazine - so do they have the best photography?

I always thought so, but I went to the shop on Regents St yesterday where they also have a gallery and a good number of the images left me cold. I have a few vintage issues of NG with some amazing pictures in though, so maybe I just caught the exhibition on a bad day.

'Best images' is pretty subjective and I suppose depends on the subject matter you are interested in, but as a magazine you can pick up from a newsagent rather than have to specifically search out they are impressive - perhaps they have the best 'easily accessible in one place' photography.

Should have added in OP "irrespective of subject matter"

I've got a couple of National Geographic books, they aren't expensive and are nice for the coffee table. They're better for showing to Grandma than the David LaChappelle ones....

Couldn't agree more. The older ones were probably ground-breaking in their time, but the more modern ones left me thinking I couldn't do much worse! Don't know if it's true, but it's how it made me feel.

Good idea Nick. I've got a growing collection too so I'll contribute reviews to any that are relevant.
