Noticed there was a few mentions of this on the Medieval: TW thread

Really looking forward to this - the reviews sound good, just need to wait on it dropping through the letterbox now! thumbup

There's a demo on Steam if you can't wait.

I've just tried the demo but I get flashing black/white across the screen after the copyright screen.

Looked at an Empire Total War help page and almost fell off my chair laughing. Number one on their list of things to do to get it working is -

1)Reformatting: Reformat your PC. Get all the hidden junk off of your hard-drive. Eating up the CPU usage, lowering your physical memory usage, and taking away valuable memory packets. Reformatting is THE number one way to get rid of ALL junk on your pc. With a game like ETW, it will need every bit of CPU, VRAM and physical ram as possible.
Yes of course I'm going to completely wipe my HDD just to get this demo to work. I should have thought of that myself.

I'm sure it's an NVidia GFX driver update needed but bloody hell. Imagine people reading that first and doing it because they know no better.

Updated my Nvidia drivers (there was a new version) but I still get black/white horizontal lines across the screen.

I wonder if the demo is DX10 only?

Ok been playing it for some time now.

The sea battles are great, the battles on land are still as good and the older Total wars. The map is my big downfall. Its camera is at a wrong angle and the more softer land and more detail have spoiled it. Its become too fiddly. There toooooo many options in the gobal map and looking at everything.

It's games like this that truly show the advantage of the PC over console.

Loving it. Probably because I seem more adept with ranged units than hand to hand of previous incarnations. Grapeshot from cannons on infantry is lethal.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx8yuoNIOnc for a neat trick.

Despite having 1GB of Ram, 1.8 GHZ Dual core processor and a 256 mb graphics card it takes me about 20-25 minutes to load Sins of a Solar Empire (once it loads up, which is about 15 minutes with a task bar and a further 10 with the game on screen moving very slowly) it plays without a problem.

It could just be that Empire:Total War is one of those games that forces many people in the PC Gaming world to upgrade.

Played it a bit last night working through the initial American campaign.

Was slightly apprehensive that it would cause my PC to give up in a huff, but it runs fine on my relatively ancient machine (1.8 Dual Core, 2GB RAM, 256MB 7600GTX) with the details set to med/low.

My specs almost similar except 2ghz, 512mb gfx card and 2GB memory. Latest NVidia drivers (even tried first on the previous version) latest DirectX 9.0c for my XP PC, sound drivers up to date. And yet I get black & white flashing lines on the screen over the top of the Copyright page. Game hangs doesn't load. And this is only for the demo not the full game.

Had a good blast on it last night.

I have loved all of the TW games from the start, each one adding new facets to make it interesting.

The 3 'theatres' being America, India and Europe is a bit strange getting used to but OK, and the sea battles are a new facet, and pretty fun.

Finding it a bit difficult to get into compared to the other so far, I need to persevere though I think.

Well spent the evening on it and really liking it so far, the micro management seems more indepth and love the research. Need to upgrade my PC! First game in a long time I cant run in full settings, Intel Q6600 @ 3ghz, 4gb SLI Ram, 2x 8800GTX
