Changing oil

I have read in Steve Heath book that while changing the oil, i should swap the filter straiught preventing the oil pump to drain,,,,,so i only have to rush with the oil filter, not the oil drain, its just i have a little leak on the sump,,,any ideas....

Where, on the sump nut, or the perimeter of the sump?

If the nut, did you replace the washer?

The weld around where the sump nut is,,,it leaks from there, only a little, but i will fill this untill i take it off to get welded...

Is your question relating to how the oil change should be done? Is it that you're not entirely sure about the instructions in the Steve Heath book?

I had a small hole in the sump caused by a weld on the exhaust hitting it, this was on my S2, I drained the oil then cleaned the area with degreaser and filled the hole with JB weld, it was a temporary repair but its been fine for over 10 months now.

You've got to do this quick so that the oil pump don't drain, all i want to know is if i leave the old filter on whilst i drain the oil and fix the leak, will that be ok without the pump draining,,,

The thing about the pump is it's not self priming so if the oil drains out you'll have no oil pressure when you put it back together. I'm not sure but I doubt leaving the filter on will help much. Not for the time it will take to remove repair and refit the sump.

It might be... it might not... You cannot work on a time limit. Essentially when changing the oil you need to work quickly to reduce the odds of the pump needing priming. The longer you leave it the more likely this will happen! It is a possibility and it has happened.
